Universal health visiting has been a cornerstone of preventative healthcare for children in the United Kingdom (UK) for over 100 years. In 2016, Scotland introduced a new Universal Health Visiting Pathway (UHVP), involving a greater number of contacts with a particular emphasis on the first year, visits within the home setting, and rigorous developmental assessment conducted by a qualified Health Visitor.

The results show positive impact from firms’ indicators of market orientation such as the improvement of existing products, the percentage of important customers within the same commune as the location of the firms, and the firm’s prioritizing attitude towards contacts of competitors within their network size. At the same time, the results detect negative impact on firms’ access to finance from the introduction of new operational processes/technologies, the number of important customers attributable to the increased resultant costs.

In this thesis, the rolling contact wear of 52100 bearing steel and Over-aged Magnesia-Partially-Stabilised Zirconia (OA-Mg-PSZ) ceramic are examined using a newly developed rolling contact wear test rig. The new wear test rig simulates the system geometry of an un-lubricated hybrid (ceramic and steel) ball bearing. The new wear test rig is versatile in that it allows low cost samples to be utilised resulting in a larger number of samples that can be tested.

Solvent extraction of molybdenum from various acid media by Alamine 336, Aliquat 336, TOPO, and DEHPA in kerosene was studied. The extraction efficiency of molybdenum by diisobutyl ketone (DIBK), the effects of various parameters like diluents, mineral acids, extractant concentration, and applications of these extractants on molybdenum extraction contained in the uranium-bearing ore solutions were investigated. DIBK used as solvent can indeed extract the molybdenum without adding any extractants in the range of 20–50 mg/L.

The contact organizations for climate change and a number of relevant agencies are proposed for additional tasks on NAMAs/MRV. These agencies will work closely with NAMA implementers to carry out monitoring, reporting and verification. To complete the legal framework for the national MRV system, a number of legal documents that need to be issued by the Prime Minister, also the head of the National Committee on Climate Change. These documents need to specify the roles and responsibilities, as well as the cooperation mechanism among the ministries and relevant departments in the MRV system.

Household contacts of cholera patients have a 100 times higher risk of developing a cholera infection than the general population. To compare the genetic relatedness of clinical and water source Vibrio cholerae isolates from cholera patients’ households across three outbreaks, we analyzed these isolates using whole-genome-sequencing (WGS) and multilocus variable-number tandem-repeat analysis (MLVA).

As genome sequencing is becoming routine in biomedical research, the total number of protein sequences is increasing exponentially, recently reaching over 108 million. However, only a tiny portion of these proteins (i.e. ~75,000 or < 0.07%) have solved tertiary structures determined by experimental techniques.

Tandem repetition of structural motifs in proteins is frequently observed across all forms of life. Topology of repeating unit and its frequency of occurrence are associated to a wide range of structural and functional roles in diverse proteins, and defects in repeat proteins have been associated with a number of diseases.

The knowledge of the spatial organisation of the chromatin fibre in cell nuclei helps researchers to understand the nuclear machinery that regulates DNA activity. Recent experimental techniques of the type Chromosome Conformation Capture (3C, or similar) provide high-resolution, high-throughput data consisting in the number of times any possible pair of DNA fragments is found to be in contact, in a certain population of cells.

Viruses are the most abundant and genetically diverse biological entities on earth, yet the repertoire of viral proteins remains poorly explored. As the number of sequenced virus genomes grows into the thousands, and the number of viral proteins into the hundreds of thousands, we report a systematic computational analysis of the point of first-contact between viruses and their hosts, namely viral transmembrane (TM) proteins.

Deep learning is one of the most powerful machine learning methods that has achieved the state-ofthe-art performance in many domains. Since deep learning was introduced to the field of bioinformatics in 2012, it has achieved success in a number of areas such as protein residue-residue contact prediction, secondary structure prediction, and fold recognition.

Direct prediction of the three-dimensional (3D) structures of proteins from one-dimensional (1D) sequences is a challenging problem. Significant structural characteristics such as solvent accessibility and contact number are essential for deriving restrains in modeling protein folding and protein 3D structure.

The study was conducted in Ratnagiri district. In all, 112 PRI woman members were selected from four Panchayat Samities, five Grampanchayats from each selected Panchayat Samiti and Ratnagiri Zilha Parishad on the basis of maximum number of woman members. The personal and socio-economic characteristics namely age, education, land holding, annual income, major occupation, official position, tenure of work, cosmopoliteness, extension contact, organizational participation, interest in public work and political awareness of the respondents were considered as the independent variables.

In hybrid structures, material layers of different mechanical properties are integrated to increase bearing capacity. When the difference in mechanical properties or thickness of the material layers is very large, debonding usually occurs along the interface between the two layers. This study uses a homogenization procedure combined with asymptotic algorithm applied on weaker/thinner materials to determine the interface stiffnesses for such structures. All the material layers and the interface are assumed to be linear elastic.

Research on the residue-residue contacts in interactive proteins is meaningful in determining the function and structure of proteins, structure-based drug design, and disease treatment. Previous methods showed good predicted results, however, the number of false positive non-residue-residue contacts (nonRRCs) is still much higher than the number of true positive residue-residue contacts (RRCs). In this research, we propose a method to eliminate false positive non-RRCs enhancing the predicted quality.
