Weirs are overflow structures used to measure flow or to control the water elevation. In sharp crested weirs sharp edge in the crest causes the water to spring clear of the crest and thus accurate measurements can be made and results beneficial to tail end farms in a field channel. Hence, sharp crested weirs are used for experimentation. The research project was envisaged with the following objectives to develop sharp crested rectangular weirs with 30°, 45° and 60° edge angles.

The study revealed that high susceptibility towards insect-pests and disease such as aphid insect, black spot and bacterial blight disease were observed most common and major production problems for both contract (73.33%) and non-contract farmers (77.78%); however, less number of contact farmers were facing these problems. This was mainly due to a proper guidance about the various cultivation and management practices provided by the parent company field executive officers (FEO) during the potato seed production.

This article examines the optimality problem in existing "planted-shared" agricultural contracts. We define the optimality properties of a long-term contract when there is no agricultural credit market. We use a dynamic principal-agent model with bilateral engagement. This optimal long-term contract highlights two characteristics: first, the agent's remuneration depends on his productive performance; second, the martingale property of the production sharing index highlights his intertemporal smoothing.

Contract to purchase farm products is a means of reducing risks caused by price fluctuations. If the contract is not carried out, loss is much bigger than compensations for both parties because buying party does not have raw materials it needs while the selling one cannot sell its produce.

The findings of the study rejected the hypothesis that contract farming is an effective tool to increase farmer‟s income. Moreover, the frontier empirical analysis reveals that some input variables have positive impacts on the output of tea production. Finally, the stochastic frontier indicates that there is no statistically significant different in terms of technical coefficients for both contract and non-contract farmers.
