Salinity intrusion forecasting is essential and challenging for hydrometeorology, especially in climate change. Employing machine learning (ML) algorithms and conventional forecasting techniques are gaining popularity and providing high performance. This study presents a method to optimize a machine learning model based on the Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) algorithm for multistep-ahead salinity forecasting (up to 7 days) at Dai Ngai station, Soc Trang province.

Computational intelligence techniques and hybrid modelling principles have been proposed to address this issue. This paper confirms the practical effect of applying Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) using Radial basis function (RBF) bases on Sliding mode control (SMC) to control nonlinear systems. The proposed algorithm is put into comparison with the super twisting 2-SMC, which was designed to reduce chattering and increase the performance of conventional SMC.

Production of inulin from yam bean tubers by ultrasonic assisted extraction (UAE) was optimized by using response surface methodology (RSM) and genetic algorithms (GA). Yield of inulin was obtained between 11.97%–12.15% for UAE and 11.21%–11.38% for microwave assisted extraction (MAE) using both the methodologies, significantly higher than conventional method (9.9 %) using optimized conditions.

This study uses densified mixture design algorithm (DMDA) to design the mixture proportions green mortars incorporating fly ash and ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS). Three green mortar mixtures with various paste contents were designed using the DMDA method while a control cement-based mortar mixture was designed using the conventional method for comparison.

This paper proposes an optimal design “modern” approach for servomotors. This approach consists of the optimization algorithms at the initial analytical calculations and the modelling of the virtual prototype in order to reduce the costly and time-consuming prototyping loops of the “conventional” design method. The objective function is the total weight of the structure while the strength and serviceability constraints are evaluated with nonlinear inelastic analysis. To save computational cost, an improved differential evolution (DE) algorithm is employed. Compared to the conventional DE algorithm, the proposed method has two major improvements: (1) a self-adaptive mutation strategy based on the p-best method to enhance the balance between global and local searches and (2) use of the multi-comparison technique (MCT) to reduce redundant structural analyses.

This paper investigates the performance of the 1-bit ADC in the wireless coded communication systems where the robust channel coding, protograph low-density parity-check code (LDPC), is employed. The investigation reveals that the performance of the conventional 1-bit ADC with the truncation limit of 3-sigma is severely destroyed by the quantization distortion even when the number of antennas increases to 100.

The objective of this research is to design mixture proportions for high strength concrete with controlled amount of cement and water through the application of densified mixture design algorithm (DMDA) method, which is comparable with conventional method (ACI). Cylindrical concrete specimens in size of 10 × 20 cm were prepared for compressive strength test. The effect of superplasticizer (SP) on workability of fresh concrete is also investigated. Test results indicate that the concrete specimens designed by DMDA method achieve higher compressive strength than that designed by ACI method.
