Sustainable Sugarcane Initiative (SSI) is one of the advanced methods of sugarcane cultivation technique which involves the use of less seed setts, water, land, labour and optimum utilization of fertilizers to achieve maximum potential yield. The SSI is an alternative to conventional method of sugarcane cultivation. The field demonstrations were conducted in farmer’s field at five different locations to study the effect of sustainable sugarcane initiative and conventional sugarcane cultivation under drip irrigation system during 2017–2018.

Water is the most valuable resource in the world and is playing a crucial role in daily activities of living beings on the earth. To meet the ever increasing demand, conservation and management of water resource is very important. Conventional methods of irrigation, like surface and subsurface flooding leads to scarcity of water, which can be reduced by adopting drip or trickle irrigation. Drip irrigation system can be controlled through different automation techniques.

A field experiment was initiated in established Robusta coffee plantation with different levels of drip fertigation viz., 75, 100, 125 and 150% of recommended dose of fertilizers to study the influence of micro-irrigation and drip fertigation on yield and yield parameters of coffee at Central Coffee Research Institute. Results showed that drip fertigation with 125 % recommended dose of fertilizers recorded significantly higher bearing nodes per branch (24.87) and pin heads/branch (623.

The agriculture sector nowadays in Palestine relies mostly on conventional energy sources and traditional irrigation ways. Considering some factors such as high costs of fossil fuels and providing new electrical network, especially to remote areas and where grid electricity is either inaccessible or expensive to expand, therefore a solar photovoltaic (PV) powered irrigation system can be a practical choice for irrigating.

The conventional method of Tomato cultivation under furrow irrigation needs a paradigm shift towards modern irrigation systems due to water scarcity. Drip irrigation method distributes water to the field using the pipe network and transforms it from the pipe network of the plant by emitters. In spite of the advantages of drip irrigation method, the traditional network of drip irrigation method has many problems. Hydraulic design seems to be only one of the minor factors of the evaluation of overall uniformity of a micro-irrigation system.

The ever increasing population growth rate has compelled to maximize food production per unit of water used, as water is major resource for agricultural production. The micro irrigation system has now become indispensible for increase in crop production as water is directly applied to the root zone of the plant. Thus micro irrigation minimizes conventional losses due to deep percolation, runoff and soil evaporation and also permits the effective utilization of fertilizers, pesticides and other water soluble chemicals along with irrigation water with better crop response.

The protected cultivation of cucumber in soilless systems (substrate culture, hydroponic, aeroponic etc.) under optimal operating microclimatic conditions has become an alternative for sustainable vegetable production as a result of shifting climatic scenarios and soil related problems. The soilless cultivation in both open and closed systems with efficient utilization of water and nutrients has significantly increased the greenhouse cucumber productivity compared to conventional cultivation under both protective structures and open field conditions.

The study was conducted at Technology Park (Plasticulture Farm) of CTAE, Udaipur, Rajasthan to evaluate performance of automated and conventional drip system for okra crop during year 2019. The Uniformity Coefficient (CU), Distribution Characteristic (DC) and Emission Uniformity (EU) were found to be highest at the head and decreases with increase in distance along the lateral for both irrigation systems. It was found that the average values of all evaluation parameters except DC, were found to be highest for automated drip system.

Increasing carbon dioxide (CO2) content in the atmosphere is the prime cause of global warming. Capturing this CO2 by agro-forestry systems through photosynthetic activity could be one of the ways to reduce its concentration in the atmosphere. Therefore, an attempt was undertaken to fix the atmospheric CO2 employing the mulberry plant as the sink considering its carbon sequestration potential.

Nowadays, chemical pesticides are the traditional solution to weed and pest problems, and although they have saved lives and crops, the greatest risk to our environment and our health comes from their use. Many significant problems from their use include con‐ tamination of the environment, the development of pesticide resistance in the target pest, the recovery of pest species, the phytotoxicity in crop fields, and the unacceptably high levels of pesticide/commodity residue in food.
