Ebook "On-surface synthesis II: Proceedings of the International workshop on-surface synthesis, San Sebastián, 27–30 June 2016" is appearing as an extremely promising strategy to create organic nanoarchitectures with atomic precision. Molecular building blocks holding adequate functional groups are dosed onto surfaces that support or even drive their covalent linkage. The surface confinement and the frequent lack of solvents (most commonly being performed under vacuum conditions) create a completely new scenario fully complementary to conventional chemistry.

Ebook "Methane combustion over lanthanum-based perovskite mixed oxides" presents current research into the catalytic combustion of methane using perovskite-type oxides (ABO3). Catalytic combustion has been developed as a method of promoting efficient combustion with minimum pollutant formation as compared to conventional catalytic combustion. Recent theoretical and experimental studies have recommended that noble metals supported on (ABO3) with well-ordered porous networks show promising redox properties.

At present, the methanol electrooxidation reaction (MOR) activities of carbon supported bimetallic Pt-Ru (M-PtRu@C) catalyst and monometallic Pt (M-Pt@C) catalysts prepared via microwave assisted polyol method and carbon supported Pt-Ru (P-PtRu@C) catalysts prepared by conventional polyol were examined to investigate the effect of the preparation method. These catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction, X-ray photo electron spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).

In this study, 3,4-dihydroxy-L-phenylalanine (L-Dopa) was solvothermally polymerized to monodisperse microspheres 1 µm in diameter. Polymerization was carried out in dimethylformamide containing appropriate amounts of urea and L-Dopa at 120 ◦ C for 24 h. Synthesis of the polymer in basic aqueous solution under hydrothermal conditions or via conventional heating resulted in the formation of bulky powders including irregularly shaped particles of the polymer. The morphologies of the synthesized polymers were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

For the first time, ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) was produced in gas phase process with a new fluidized bed concept where the solids are dispersed phase and the gas is bulk phase as opposed to conventional fluidized bed reactors (FBRs). With this concept, UHMWPE with average molecular weights about 1-6,9 × 10 6 g moles −1 were produced with a commercial supported Ziegler-Natta catalyst by using a gas phase mini semibatch reactor system.

The green method of nanoparticle synthesis, which is an environment and living-friendly method, is an updated subject that has appeared as an alternative to conventional methods such as physical and chemical synthesis. In this presented study, the green synthesis of magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) from iron (III) chloride by using Brassica oleracea var. capitata sub.var. rubra aqueous peel extract has been reported.

Dermatophytes are a group of closely related keratinophilic fungi that can invade keratinized humans and animals tissues such as skin, hair and nails causing dermatophytosis. They are an important cause of superficial fungal infection. Conventional methods like potassium hydroxide (KOH) direct microscopy and fungal culture lacks the ability to make an early and specific diagnosis, as it takes about four weeks for the culture to grow on Sabourauds dextrose agar.

The frequency of fungal infections in tuberculosis patients has increased in recent years. A study published in the Bulletin of the World Health Organization estimates that more than a million people develop chronic pulmonary aspergillosis after being treated for TB every year. As bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid samples are generally useful specimens in the diagnosis of invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA), this study was designed to evaluate the incidence of fungal infections in pulmonary tuberculosis patients by direct microscopy and culture of BAL samples.

The enhancements of zero superconducting transition temperature (Tc,0) in Bi1.6Pb0.4Sr2Ca2- xNaxCu3O10+δ (BPSCCO) are reported. The BPSCCO samples (with x ranging from 0.00 to 0.06) were prepared by using the conventional solid state reaction technique. The properties of the samples were examined by using the X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and the resistance versus temperature (R-T) measurements.

Gout is a picturesque presentation of uric acid disturbance. It is the most well understood and described type of arthritis. Its epidemiology is studied. New insights into the pathophysiology of hyperuricemia and gouty arthritis; acute and chronic allow for an even better understanding of the disease. The role of genetic predisposition is becoming more evident. The clinical picture of gout is divided into asymptomatic hyperuricemia, acute gouty arthritis, intercritical period, and chronic tophaceous gout. Diagnosis is based on laboratory and radiological features.

Laccase-catalyzed polymerization of tyrosine and tyrosine-containing pep-tides was studied in the presence and absence of ferulic acid (FA). Advanced spectroscopic methods such as MALDI-TOF MS, EPR, FTIR microscopy and HPLC-fluorescence, as well as more conventional analyt-ical tools: oxygen consumption measurements and SDS⁄PAGE were used in the reaction mechanism studies. Laccase was found to oxidize tyrosine and tyrosine-containing peptides, with consequent polymerization of the compounds.

The interaction of multiple HIV-1 regulator of virion (Rev) proteins with the viral RNA target, the Rev response element (RRE), is critical for nuclear export of incompletely spliced and unspliced viral RNA, and for the onset of the late phase in the viral replication cycle. The heterogeneity of the Rev–RRE complex has made it difficult to study using conventional structural methods.
