Ebook "The siamese-twin porphyrin and its copper and nickel complexes: A non-innocent twist" describes the first and long-sought successful synthesis of a new pyrazole-expanded porphyrin, a higher analog of porphyrin. This "Siamese-Twin Porphyrin" provides two conjoined porphyrin-like coordination spheres, thus being able to accommodate two metal ions within the same ligand.

For more than five decades, dithizone has been widely used as an analytical reagent. This ligand forms strongly colored complexes with metal ions and this ability to form complexes can be used for extraction/removal of certain metal ions in addition to analytical determination. In static mode, the supercritical carbon dioxide extraction of copper and lead ions from aqueous solutions after complexation by the dithizone ligand is studied (at two different conditions: a) p = 120 bar, T = 30 °C, and b) p = 72 bar, T = 50 °C).

This paper reports the application of the \(R{u^{2 + }}, C{u^ + }, and F{e^{2 + }}\) complexes in form of RuL2(SCN)2, CuL2(SCN)2 for dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) development. The calculation results, given by quantum chemistry, demonstrated that the complex containing copper is more suitable than the one containing iron. The modification of Cu(I) complex by using various numbers of ligands enhanced photon absorption capacity as well as the absorption range.

2,6-Pyridinedicarboxylic acid (H2 dipic) reacts with copper-exchanged zeolite NaY to form [Cu(dipic)(H2 O) 2 ] n , which is encapsulated in the pores of the zeolite. In this zeolite-encapsulated form, the copper derivative functions as an efficient catalyst for the oxidation of cyclohexene, toluene, cyclohexane, and ethyl benzene in the presence of hydrogen peroxide (as an oxidant). The catalyst was readily recovered from the reaction mixture, and it could be reused for an additional three runs without perceptible loss of activity.

This polymeric ligand was reacted with PdCl 2 to obtain a polymeric Pd(0) complex. The TEM image of the Pd catalyst showed good dispersion of catalytic sites. The Pd catalyst exhibits excellent activity and stability in copper-free Sonogashira–Hagihara cross-coupling reactions under aerobic conditions. This protocol can be applied efficiently to the coupling reactions of chloro- as well as iodo- and bromo-arenes. The catalyst can be reused several times without any considerable decrease in its activity.
