  • Superficial chronic corneal epithelial defects (SCCEDs) are spontaneous corneal defects in dogs that share many clinical and pathologic characteristics to recurrent corneal erosions (RCE) in humans. Boxer dogs are predisposed to SCCEDs, therefore a search for a genetic defect was performed to explain this susceptibility.

  • Cornea is a composite tissue exhibiting nonlinear and time-dependent mechanical properties. Corneal ulcers are one of the main pathologies that affect this tissue, disrupting its structural integrity and leading to impaired functions. In this study, uniaxial tensile and stress-relaxation tests are developed to evaluate stress-strain and timedependent mechanical behaviour of porcine corneas.

  • Distichiasis, an ocular disorder in which aberrant cilia (eyelashes) grow from the opening of the Meibomian glands of the eyelid, has been reported in Friesian horses. These misplaced cilia can cause discomfort, chronic keratitis, and corneal ulceration, potentially impacting vision due to corneal fibrosis, or, if secondary infection occurs, may lead to loss of the eye.

  • The present study was carried in the Department of Microbiology, MMIMSR, Haryana on 200 clinically suggested cases of corneal ulcers. Corneal scrapings were subjected to microscopy and culture. Of 200 suspected cases, 43.5% were culture positive. Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were the predominant gram positive and negative bacterial isolates. Aspergillus species was the most prevalent fungal isolate.

  • The aim of the study is to isolate the bacteria and fungi causing keratitis in and around the Nellore district and to do antibiotic sensitivity testing especially to identify the MDR strains. Corneal scrapings were collected from 150 patients who attended to the department of Ophthalmology, Narayana Medical College, Nellore during the period February 2016 to December 2016 with corneal ulcers.

  • Ophthalmic affections in dogs reported in Veterinary Clinical Complex, LUVAS, Hisar were investigated for a period of one year. The occurrence of different ophthalmic conditions was analysed in different affected age group, sex and breed of dogs. Out of total 4500 clinical cases of dogs (60) sixty cases of ocular affections were reported with maximum incidence of Pigmentary Keratitis and Corneal Ulcer/Eye Injury. Pugs, non-descript breeds and Labrador recorded highest incidence of ocular affections with maximum cases in young age group.

  • Corneal blindness is responsible for 1.5 to 2 million new cases of monocular blindness every year in which ocular trauma and corneal ulceration are significant contributors. Corneal infections of fungal etiology are common in India (19-45%). Aspergillus (16– 53%) and Fusarium (10–45%) species are the common pathogens. Purpose: 1.To Identify and isolate the various fungi causing fungal keratitis. 2. To know the usefulness of Gram stain, KOH wet mount and fungal culture in identification of fungi. Materials and Methods: After taking written and informed consent taken.

  • Keratomycosis is an invasive fungal infection of the cornea which usually occurs following corneal trauma by vegetative material. It is usually caused by hyaline fungus such as Aspergillus, Fusarium and Acremonium, but rare case reports with phaeoid fungus have been reported. We report here a case of keratomycosis caused by Exserohilum rostratum. E. rostratum is a dematiaceous fungus that has been known to cause sinusitis and subcutaneous infections but it has rarely been reported to be a cause of keratomycosis.

  • Ocular Gonorrhea in Adults Ocular gonorrhea in an adult usually results from autoinoculation from an infected genital site. As in genital infection, the manifestations range from severe to occasionally mild or asymptomatic disease. The variability in clinical manifestations may be attributable to differences in the ability of the infecting strain to elicit an inflammatory response. Infection may result in a markedly swollen eyelid, severe hyperemia and chemosis, and a profuse purulent discharge. The massively inflamed conjunctiva may be draped over the cornea and limbus.
