Correlated genetic changes

Correlated genetic response in survival to selection for high growth has not been reported in giant freshwater prawn (GFP) (Macrobrachium rosenbergii). The main aim of this study was to measure genetic changes and estimate heritability for this character (survival rate) and its genetic associations with body traits in a GFP population selected over eight generations from 2008 to 2015.

The levels of circulating cytokines fluctuate with age, acute illness, and chronic disease, and are predictive of mortality; this is also true for patterns of DNA (CpG) methylation. Given that immune cells are particularly sensitive to changes in the concentration of cytokines in their microenvironment, we hypothesized that serum levels of TNF, IL-6, IL-8 and IL-10 would correlate with genome-wide alterations in the DNA methylation levels of blood leukocytes.

The functional impact of genetic variation has been extensively surveyed, revealing that genetic changes correlated to phenotypes lie mostly in non-coding genomic regions. Studies have linked allele-specific genetic changes to gene expression, DNA methylation, and histone marks but these investigations have only been carried out in a limited set of samples.

The genetic changes underlying carcinogenesis in patients with risk factors of gallbladder carcinoma (GBC) remains controversial, especially in patients with pancreaticobiliary maljunction (PBM). This study aimed to clarify the association between risk factors of GBC and genetic changes using next-generation sequencing (NGS).

The olfactory system enables organisms to detect chemical cues in the environment and can signal the availability of food or the presence of a predator. Appropriate behavioral responses to these chemical cues are therefore important for organismal survival and can influence traits such as organismal life span and food consumption. However, understanding the genetic mechanisms underlying odor-guided behavior, correlated responses in other traits, and how these constrain or promote their evolution, remain an important challenge.

Breast cancer is a heterogeneous disease with a highly variable clinical outcome in which both genetic and epigenetic changes have critical roles. We investigated tumor expression levels of histone-modifying enzymes LSD1, HDAC2 and SIRT1 in relation with patient survival and tumor relapse in a retrospective cohort of 460 breast cancer patients.

Polyploidy is well studied from a genetic and genomic perspective, but the morphological, anatomical, and physiological consequences of polyploidy remain relatively uncharacterized. Whether these potential changes bear on functional integration or are idiosyncratic remains an open question.

Under present investigation, AMMI (Additive main effects and multiplicative interaction) model was validated to study and identify the stable genotype in Volvariella volvacea (Paddy straw mushroom) under varied environmental conditions. A slight change in temperature and humidity can cause larger difference in the crop yield. Moreover, the identification of strain selection criteria for better yield is also needed to be identified for genetic improvement.

The concept of heritability is important to determining whether phenotypic differences observed among various individuals are due to genetic changes or due to the effects of environmental factors. Heritability indicates the possibility and extent on which improvement can be brought about through selection. It is a useful measure for considering the ratio of genetic variance to the total variance and is genetically represented in percentage. Correlation measures the degree and direction of relationship between two or more variables.

Transcriptional activation can be divided into three main mechanisms: 1. Events that alter chromatin structure can enhance the access of transcription factors to DNA. For example, histone acetylation generally opens chromatin structure and is correlated with transcriptional activation. 2. Posttranslational modifications of transcription factors, such as phosphorylation, can induce the assembly of active transcription complexes.
