Corruption in Nigeria

The study finds that remittances significantly improve the control of corruption in Nigeria. We further examine the robustness test of the results using dynamic OLS estimation, variance decomposition and impulse response analysis. Our results remain significant and consistent to the earlier one reported in ARDL framework which supports the extant literature.

A part of the difficulties highlighted in the investigation include over specialization, poor policy makers and policies instruments, poor infrastructure, corruption, and lack of education. Some strategies identified for economic diversification include: regional mix, proper strong supportive structure, (political dependability, inner security, solid education framework), attitude change, openness, macroeconomic policy,and institutional matters, changing and boosting of the agricultural sector, strengthening the manufacturing sector, and strengthening anticorruption campaign.

This paper examined the extent to which corruption pose a challenge and weigh down national security and development in Nigeria with various manifestations. The prevalence of corruption challenges in Nigeria is highly pervasive by undermining the nation's social, economic and political development. Corruption has unfavourable consequences on investment, growth, security and national development. Thus, weakening the institutional foundation on which all policies are made and implemented and making it detrimental to the sustainable development of the country.

The study investigated the impact of internally generated revenue (IGR) on economic development of Nigeria. The inability of States and Local governments in Nigeria to generate enough revenue to cope with their expenditure responsibilities has been a serious challenge. The improper use of IGR and corruption have remained a setback to economic development in Nigeria, hence the clamour from the citizens.
