Cotton whitefly Bemisia tabaci
-
Major threat to highly productive cotton belt of North India is Cotton Leaf Curl Disease exclusively transmitted by whitefly (Bemisia tabaci). The present investigation was carried out at Research farm of department of Agricultural Meteorology, CCS HAU, Hisar Haryana, to evaluate progression of CLCuD and whitefly (Bemisia tabaci) in relation to weather parameters. Three Bt -cotton hybrids were sown at three different dates. Per cent CLCuD incidence increases continuously from appearance to picking.

Incidence and management of cotton whitefly Bemisia tabaci under high density planting system (HDPS)
The study on “Incidence and Management of Cotton whitefly, Bemisia tabaci Under High Density Planting System (HDPS)” was conducted at RARS, Lam, Guntur during kharif, 2016-17 to observe the incidence of whitefly under HDPS and to determine the efficacy of flonicamid 50% WG, diafenthiuron 50% WP, acephate 75% SP, monocrotophos 36% SL, fipronil 5% SC, buprofezin 25% SC and imidacloprid 17.8% SL under HDPS. There is no significant difference was observed in the incidence of whiteflies in both normal and HDPS. Among the tested insecticides diafenthiuron 50% WP @ 1.25g.

The experiment was carried out during kharif 2014 at College of Agriculture, Indore under All India Coordinated Cotton Improvement Project in Randomized Block Design (RBD) with eight treatments and three replications on Bt cotton hybrid NCS 927, sown on 27th July with 0.6x0.6 m spacing. The recommended agronomical practices were adopted properly. Each treatment was prepared for alternate use of two insecticides during six sprays. The spraying was done at 10 days interval with 500 litre water per hectare, sprayed by knapsack sprayer fitted with a duromist nozzle.

Cotton Leaf Curl Disease (CLCuD) is a devastating disease in cotton and cause seed cotton yield loss upto 80% in Northern India. Transmission of CLCuD by Bemisia tabaci, the role of alternative weed hosts, infested cotton plants is well understood. However, the relationship of viruliferous whitefly population and CLCuD incidence is still not clear. We aimed to pursue a detailed study on the effect of general whitefly population and viruliferous whitefly population on CLCuD percent disease index (PDI) and their correlation.
