The ‘Ephemeral Laboratory’ seeks to create a methodology for myself and other practitioners working within the field of ephemeral architecture. It tests the proposition that a robust armature can be developed to act as a common methodological device in the design, curation and orchestration of a diverse range of temporal engagements with participants and other practitioners within a variety of public realms.

Identifying genotype-phenotype links and causative genes from quantitative trait loci (QTL) is challenging for complex agronomically important traits. To accelerate maize gene discovery and breeding, we present the Complete-diallel design plus Unbalanced Breeding-like Inter-Cross (CUBIC) population, consisting of 1404 individuals created by extensively inter-crossing 24 widely used Chinese maize founders.

The system’s architecture is based on an original design that constitutes a vNIC, a physical network interface card (pNIC), and a software. The vNIC creates the virtual host, while the relay system manages the software. Thus, pNIC provides an interface between the physical layer and the software layer. Finally, we conduct empirical testing of the proposed system’s viability using real-life Internet-based research. The results show that our proposed system performs effectively and has good operability.

Generally, a process is defined as a sequence of events that transforms the biological materials of food products, via biochemical changes, into stable forms with added value. This can create new products or modify existing ones. Process design refers to the design of food processes and manufacturing methods, while plant design refers to the design of the whole processing plant. The processing of food is no longer as simple or straightforward as in the past. Food process design is an interdisciplinary science that is highly regarded by the food industry.

The total rebuilding of Pier A in 1995 and the construction of a link to Terminal 1 in 1998 was designed by the architect firm Holm & Grut A/S. The most characteristic feature of the pier is its modern version of fan vaulting supporting the aluminium wing structures that make up the roof. These curved roofs and the glass facades form reflecting surfaces that create the space and light that is the hallmark of Nordic architecture. Holm & Grut wanted to create a building that would give arriving passengers an immediate experience of Scandinavian design.

.Form and Fabric in Landscape Architecture Form and Fabric in Landscape Architecture provides an original, visual approach to the study of landscape architecture by creating a spatial morphology based on use and experience of landscapes. It explores aesthetic, spatial and experiential concepts by providing a structure through which landscapes can be understood and conceived in design. ‘Fabric’ is the integrated structure of whole landscapes, while ‘form’ refers to the components that make up this fabric.

Assisted direct manipulation interfaces have been widely studied in computer graphics, dating back to Ivan Sutherland’s Sketch- Pad [Sutherland 1963]. In the context of architectural design, Harada et al. [1995] describe an interface for creating floorplans. Their interface supports local constraints and invokes discrete lo- cal search whenever the user drives the layout into a challeng- ing configuration. Likewise, Michalek and Papalambros [2002] use sequential quadratic programming to optimize an arrangement of rectangles in response to interactive manipulation.

Roman theatres were complex buildings, closer in design to modern theatres than Greek ones. The seating was arranged in a semicircle around the orchestra as in the Greek theatre, but the stage and scene building were joined to the auditorium and rose to the same height, creating a sense of enclosure more like that of a modern theatre. This sense of enclosure was made more emphatic by the fact that some smaller theatres or odea were roofed and larger ones often had awnings (vela) overhead to shade the audience.

Once the SRS has been approved, implementation begins. Programming teams have many options: The programmers can simply start building the code and create the objects and user interface elements. Designers can build a user interface prototype to demonstrate to the users, stakeholders and the rest of the team. Any code used to develop the prototype is typically thrown away once the design has been finalized. Pictures, flow charts, data flow diagrams, database design diagrams and other visual tools can be used to determine aspects of the design and architecture.

On behalf of the SB05Tokyo Student Session Organising Committee, I would like to welcome you all to Tokyo and to the first attempt of a student session in the series of Sustainable Building Conferences. We initiated this event based on the brief that it could create networks between young architects and researchers in the field of Sustainable Building, and that the networks could act as an essential catalyst for forming a better, less unsustainable future.

As much as I would like people to believe that DotNetNuke was intentionally created as a premier open source project for the Microsoft platform, it is unfortunately not the case. As is true with many open source projects, the software was created with commercial intentions in mind, and only when it was discovered that its true purpose would not be realized was it reconsidered as an open source project.

Guide to Creating Website Information Architecture and Content Information architecture (IA) is an often-overlooked area of website design. Too often, as designers, we just let the CMS we’re using dictate how content for a site is organized. And that works fine as long as the site fits perfectly into the narrow content formats most CMSs are designed around. But too often, a website’s content breaks the boundaries of most CMSs.
