The objectives of this research were to investigate the conception rate, proportion of calving, calving status, gestation length in Zebu crossbred cows artificially inseminated with Wagyu and Red Angus bull’s straw frozen semen, in Thai-Binh Province, from June 2019 - March 2021. Total of 236 Zebu crossbred cows were chosen, inseminated, and monitored for conception, pregnant status, calving, and gestation length.

The incidence of poor semen quality and sub-fertility/infertility is higher in crossbred as compared to Zebu males. Several attempts have been made to understand the possible reasons for higher incidence of fertility problems in crossbred males, at sperm phenotype, proteome and genome level but with variable results.

Flow cytometry based evaluation of sperm parameters is advantageous over the traditional microscope based evaluation. Many sperm parameters can be measured within short time period and with high accuracy. For this study, semen from six Jersey crossbred bull were collected. Semen parameters like sperm for viability and acrosomal integrity were analyzed by flow cytometry.

The present study was carried out to assess the relative expression of Y- specific genes [Sex determining region on Y-chromosome (SRY), Testis-specific protein Y-encoded (TSPY) and Ubiquitin specific peptidase 9-Y-linked (USP9Y)] and their association with semen production characters in crossbred Jersey bulls. The blood samples were collected from breeding bulls present in three frozen semen stations in Tamil Nadu.

The objective of the study was to assess the effects of non-genetic factors such as farm, order of ejaculate, period, season of collection and age of the bull on semen quality traits of crossbred Holstein Friesian (CBHF) bulls. Data on a total of 22442 ejaculates from 72 CBHF bulls collected during the period from 1996 to 2014 were obtained from three organized farms in Tamil Nadu, India.

Data on 106197 semen ejaculates of 310 crossbred Jersey bulls maintained at three frozen semen stations in Tamil Nadu, India were collected from the year 2002 to 2014. The effects of various non-genetic factors such as farm, ejaculate number, period of semen collection, season of semen collection and age of the bulls at collection were studied on semen quality parameters using least-squares method.

The present study was envisaged to assess the effect of different seasons on semen quality of crossbred bull semen. Frozen semen samples produced from Kerala Livestock Development Board was collected from three different seasons of Kerala. Semen collected from six crossbred bulls of same exotic inheritance was selected. Maximum temperature and relative humidity significantly varied between different seasons (p≤0.05). However, Temperature Humidity Index (THI) and minimum temperature did not vary between seasons.

Data maintained on 742 breeding bulls of different breeds indicated that 213 cases were affected during 3 year period and 78 cases were treated by surgical interventions. Surgical cases recorded were as lameness 51 (23.94%), major affections 09 (4.23%) and minor affections 18 (8.45%). Lameness was highest in purebred Holstein Friesian (7.04%) compared to purebred Jersey bulls (0.94%), while it was highest in crossbred Holstein Friesian (8.92%) compared to crossbred Jersey bulls (1.41%). Proper hoof trimming was mainly essential tool in early recovery of hoof lameness.

The Artificial Insemination Database Application for Asia (AIDA Asia) was developed by FAO/IAEA in Microsoft Access 2000® and Visual Basic for Applications ® 6.0 [8]. The computer application contains 6 files to record, analyse and report data on farms, females inseminated, semen, oestrus characteristics, inseminators and pregnancy diagnosis. Fourteen bulls comprising 7 zebus and 7 crossbreds (50% zebu and 50% Friesian) that were used in the national AI programme were selected to determine their fertility.
