Crossbred cows during Peripartum period

A study was carried to observe the changes in the Haematological parameters such as Total Erythrocyte count (TEC), Total Leukocyte Count (TLC), Haemoglobin (Hb), Packed Cell Volume (PCV), Mean Corpuscular Volume (MCV), Mean Corpuscular Haemoglobin (MCH), Mean Corpuscular Haemoglobin Concentration (MCHC), Total Platelet count and Differential Leukocytes count (DLC) of crossbred cows Karan Fries (KF) (Holstein Fresian × Kankrej) cows during transition period.

Six crossbred cows (Holstein Friesian × Kankrej) were investigated in their advance stage of gestation period for Phagocytic Activity (PA) of Blood and Milk. Blood was collected on days -30, -15, -7 and -3 before calving, on the day of calving and on days 3, 7, 15 and 30 after calving while milk collected on the day of calving and 3, 7, 15, 30 day after calving.

The whole study was conducted on six adult pregnant Crossbred cows during Peripartum period. Nine ml of whole blood was collected and plasma was separated and stored in deep freeze at -20◦C until analyzed. Serum concentration of ALT (U/L) and AST (U/L) were significantly (P < 0.05) decreased on the day parturition. While ALP (IU/L) and ACP (IU/L) levels were significantly (P < 0.05) increased on the day of parturition.
