This research evaluated the biotechnological potential of fifteen native Trichoderma strains that were previously isolated from the rhizosphere of maize cultivated at the Estado de Mexico (Mexico). The radial growth rate of each fungal strain was assessed as well as the qualitative analysis of enzyme activity on specific culture media.

Maize is considered to be the third most important cereal after rice and wheat in India. It is being cultivated worldwide in a wider range of environmental conditions, because of its greater adaptability. It is known to be affected by more than 62 diseases. Among them, turcicum leaf blight caused by Exserohilum turcicum (Pass.) Leonard and Suggs is of significant importance as it drastically reduces the yield by reducing photosynthetic activity of the plant.

An experiment was conducted on cultivation of kharif maize with addition of different types of fertilizer and manure with different level. Vermicompost had increased the bulk and particle density, pore space, and water holding capacity, electrical conductivity and reduced pH and increased organic carbon content, available nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium activity in optimized treatment.

The cultivation of Pleurotus cornucopiae, the branched oyster mushroom is not very common in India but is relished for its pleasant flavour and mild taste. Grain substrates for its spawn production have not been evaluated yet but, wheat grains are commonly used for the same. So, five different grain substrates viz., wheat, barley, kodo, jowar and maize were tested, for spawn run period, mycelia growth, fruit body characters and yield of said mushroom on five different substrates. It was found that minimum time for spawn run was taken by jowar grains (7.

Maize cultivation for vegetable purpose, such as baby corn is a diversified and value addition in food industries. Baby corn is the female inflorescence in the maize plant, harvested within two days of silk emergence and is sweet in taste and crisp which is a source of foreign earning exchange for India and successful in countries like Thailand and Taiwan has now proven to be a successful venture. The most crucial factors in scientific crop productions are nutrient management. In modern agriculture the knowledge of optimum dose of crop nutrition is of prime concern.

Farmers‟ participatory demonstrations on jute cultivation using zero tillage (ZT) technology were conducted in West Bengal through standardized conservation agriculture (CA)-jute protocols developed jointly by Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya and International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre (CIMMYT). The results of demonstration indicated a significant yield increase under ZT over conventional practices. On an average, an yield increase of 25.83-27.83% under zero tillage technology reflected the positive effect of demonstration over the existing practices.

This paper examines the trends in rice and maize productivity growth in Andhra Pradesh. A nonparametric data envelopment analysis (DEA) programming method is used to compute Malmquist productivity indices. For study, time-series data on cost of cultivation of selected crops were collected from the reports of Commission on Agricultural Costs and Prices for the period 1996-97 to 2014-15. The results revealed that the decomposition of the TFPch for the corresponding years into EFFch and TECHch revealed that 48.8 per cent increase in TFPch was due to improvement in the technology used.

The Jammu and Kashmir has a varied type of climate from sub-tropical to cold arid. The main crops grown in the state are rice, maize, wheat, pulses, oil seeds, saffron etc. The cultivation of Saffron is mostly confined to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. In Kashmir saffron cultivation is peculiar and the legend about its introduction in to Kashmir shows that it is an ancient industry about 2200 years’ old. It is the legendry crop of the welldrained plateau of Pampore. The present study is an attempt to analyse the cost, return and marketing of Saffron in Jammu and Kashmir.

Prevalence of moisture stress and poor crop establishment are major constraints for the cultivation of rabi crops in maize fallows which results in reduced cropping intensity and insufficient food production in North Eastern Hill region. Hence, the present field experiment was conducted with different maize based cropping systems under diverse soil moisture conservation (SMC) options at mid-altitudes of Meghalaya.

The rice-wheat rotation is one of the world’s largest agricultural production systems occupying about 85% of the cultivated land in the Indo-Gangetic Plains (IGP) and nearly one-sixth of the total geographical area of the sub continent. The system accounts for about one-third of the area of both rice and wheat grown in South Asia. Rice-wheat rotations produce more than 45% of the region’s food and provide staple grains for nearly 42% of the total population of 1.3 billion of South Asia.

Maize is one of the food crop grown all over Andhra Pradesh. After harvest of the cobs, farmers have the practice of burning the stalks in the field itself. To overcome this problem and to test the feasibility of utilizing maize stalks for oyster mushroom cultivation this study was carried out. In this study milky mushroom (Calocybe indica) was cultivated using maize stalks, paddy straw and with different ratios of these two substrates for three years.

Zinc deficiency in soil is induced due to soil micronutrient depletion from intensification of cultivation, application of high analysis NPK fertilizers and lesser use of organic manure. Among the various growth factors, zinc was recognized as one of the main limiting factors of maize crop growth and yields. This hypothesis was verified by conducting an experiment on zinc deficient soil to study the response of applied zinc through soil and foliar Zn-EDTA application at two stages of crop growth.

Maize is the 3rd most important crop in the Bihar next to rice and wheat. It is grown throughout the year in one or other part of state. Due to continuous cropping of maize and other factors like improper use of fertilizers, pesticides and climate change, the disease problem has increased in tremendous proportion. Almost all parts of the maize plant are susceptible to numerous diseases that considerably reduce the yield and quality of the crop.

The district Kapurthala is a fully diversified in cultivation of crops as the major cropping sequence followed is paddy-wheat, paddy-potato-muskmelon/watermelon/spring maize/ vegetables. The area under two crops namely sunflower and summer moong is uncertain and depends on the selling rate prevalent in the market at the time of harvesting and ease of marketing. This study was based on a survey conducted on 100 farmers in the district.
