In this study the authors have attempted to domesticate traditionally preferred native oyster mushroom species to make it available as a regular source of nutrition and revenue. With this objective an experiment was designed for round the year cultivation of this wild edible strain in ambient conditions using locally available material as substrates. This study includes details of the collected species, cultivation methodology and biochemical composition of the species.

The cultivation of Pleurotus cornucopiae, the branched oyster mushroom is not very common in India but is relished for its pleasant flavour and mild taste. Grain substrates for its spawn production have not been evaluated yet but, wheat grains are commonly used for the same. So, five different grain substrates viz., wheat, barley, kodo, jowar and maize were tested, for spawn run period, mycelia growth, fruit body characters and yield of said mushroom on five different substrates. It was found that minimum time for spawn run was taken by jowar grains (7.

The key role played by Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVK) of India in popularizing oyster mushroom cultivation technology among the rural youths through training and demonstration programmes has been widely appreciated. Evaluation of outcome and efficacy of the training and demonstration programmes conducted by KVKs are necessary to keep the method of transfer of technology in right track. The present study was undertaken to find out the impact of training and demonstration programme conducted by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Barpeta.

The Oyster mushroom (Pleurotus cystidiosus) was cultivated on different agrowastes as substrates such as; sugarcane bagasse (ScB), rice straw (RS), and wheat straw (WS), whereas the fourth formula composed of combination of these three substrates in a proportion of 1: 1. The ScB, RS and WS agro-wastes substrates were selected as the most favorable lignocellulosic sources. P. cystidiosus can efficiently degrade the agro-wastes and grow at wide range of temperatures.

Maize is one of the food crop grown all over Andhra Pradesh. After harvest of the cobs, farmers have the practice of burning the stalks in the field itself. To overcome this problem and to test the feasibility of utilizing maize stalks for oyster mushroom cultivation this study was carried out. In this study milky mushroom (Calocybe indica) was cultivated using maize stalks, paddy straw and with different ratios of these two substrates for three years.

Present investigation was carried out in the Mushroom Production Unit, Department of Plant Protection, Anbil Dharmalingam Agricultural College & Research Institute, Tiruchirappalli from January 2018 to April 2018. Mushroom cultivation can directly improve livelihoods through economic, nutritional and medicinal contributions. But, mushrooms cultivation in a commercial way is underway. However, visualizing mushroom cultivation as a sustainable tool is a new challenge.

Oyster mushroom (Pleurotus spp.) is fungal fruiting body. There are several oyster mushroom varieties available. Some of the varieties were commercially cultivating in Tamil Nadu. The mushrooms will give good yield based on the climatic condition especially temperature and relative humidity. A study was undertaken for identifying effect of temperature and relative humidity on oyster mushroom production exclusive for Trichy district. The high yield of oyster mushroom mainly depends upon temperature and relative humidity. The isolation is made from mushroom.

Mushroom is a popular nutrient and protein-rich food of the world. Oyster mushroom is the second most popular mushroom after button mushroom all over the world. Oyster mushrooms are the important and least expensive to grow, they are well known for conversion of crop residues to food proteins. Growing medium of the mushroom is generally known as substrate. It is the base of mushroom cultivation same as soil for crops. The present investigations were carried out on Comparative studies of span growth on different grains substrate in three Pleurotus spp.

Oyster mushrooms are well known worldwide for their health promoting as well as their easily cultivable nature with minimum requirements. The study was undertaken to observe the comparative growth behavior and yield potential of two different species of oyster mushroom viz., Pleurotus florida and Pleurotus sajor-caju. Pleurotus florida and Pleurotus sajor-caju mushrooms were grown separately in wheat substrate in dark growing chamber with temperature and relative humidity ranges maintained in between 20-25˚C and 80-85% respectively.

The economy of rural areas largely depends on agricultural practices. The livelihood is invariably affected with failure of crop due to natural calamities, pest attacks, poor intercultural practices, etc. Mushroom cultivation is rising as sustainable agriculture option for farmers, which is providing financial and nutritional securities to the population of rural areas. Among different cultivable mushroom species, oyster mushroom produces higher yields and earns more returns. With advanced production technology and research, the status of oysters can be uplifted in India.

Mushrooms, also called as ‘white vegetables’ or ‘boneless vegetarian meat’ contain ample amount of proteins (20-35%), vitamins and fibre. Milky mushroom is robust, fleshy, milky white, umbrella like mushroom, having long shelf-life and lucrative market value. Ballari District lies in Northern dry zone of Karnataka receive 28-290 C mean temperature in January and highest maximum temperature in May reaches 430C. Hence, different mushroom species can be cultivated due to prevailing wide range of temperature in the District.
