The current synthetic fungicides to treat anthracnose sometime show toxic effects for farmers, residues on foods, and environmental impacts.   • The performance of green shade net on yield and quality of tomato was evaluated at farmers field in Shahdol district. Under shade net house condition green colour shade net having 50% shade factor was used in the study. Similar crop along with similar cultural practices in the open field and shade net cultivation was selected for performance evaluation. The study revealed that under shade net condition performance of tomato the crop yield, number of fruit per plant, fruit weight, plant height, harvest duration and number of harvest increased by 75.32 per cent, 61 per cent, 76.

  • The present study entitled “Studies on yield and economics of winter vegetables in North East Ghat Zone of Odisha” was designed to assess the comparative profitability of selected winter vegetables: namely tomato, cabbage, cauliflower, carrot and beet. The experiment was carried out on instructional farm of College of Agriculture, GIBS, Gunupur, Odisha during pre-rabi season 2017-18 with six treatments and ten replications treated in Randomized Block Design. The results of the study were statistically analysed and it showed significant differences between the treatments.

  • The present studies were carried out under protected cultivation at CSK Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya, Palampur. Single spray of three insecticides viz., imidacloprid (0.018%), indoxacarb (0.015%) and lambda-cyhalothrin (0.004%) was given on tomato crop. The residues of imidacloprid and indoxacarb were worked out on tomato fruits during winter season 2015 whereas lambda-cyhalothrin residues were worked out during summer season 2016. Tomato fruit samples were collected at 0, 1, 3, 5, 7 and 10 days after application of insecticides.

  • Powdery mildew caused by Oidium neolycopersici L. Kiss is one of the most important diseases of tomato under polyhouse conditions. During 2014-15, polyhouses of Kangra district (H.P., India) were surveyed and the disease severity was observed between 5.0 to 89.5 per cent affecting both quality and quantity of the harvest. Fourteen hybrids/cultivars of tomato were screened under p house conditions during 2014-15 cropping season, but all were found either susceptible or weakly resistant against powdery mildew.

Rhizoctonia solani is the most important soilborne pathogen of tomato crop and in recent past it is known to cause blight symptoms on stems of tomato plants which has become a serious threat to tomato cultivation in Ranga Reddy district of Andhra Pradesh. The pathogen was isolated on PDA from blight affected tomato plants collected from farmers’ fields and was identified as Rhizoctonia solani based on its cultural and morphological characteristics.

  • The use of industrial waste water for irrigation through drip system has emerged a very important way to utilize its nutrients and removal of its pollutants load by cultivating various crops (tomato, brinjal). An experiment was conducted to evaluate the impact of textile factory effluents (0, 10, 35, 75 and 100% concentration) on germination and some physiological parameters like biomass production, root development in vegetable crop. Weeds compete with the crops for water, soil, nutrients, light, space and crop yields are significantly reduced as reported by several studies.   • The non-availability of a standardized scale to measure the farmers‟ knowledge level influenced the researchers to construct a test for measuring the knowledge on recommended tomato production package of practices. Pertinent items were collected covering all aspects from the crop production guide developed by the Department of Horticulture, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh. After getting jury opinion on the items, test index of item difficulty, index of item discrimination and point biserial correlation for the items were worked out. All these were taken in to account to arrive at the final scale.
