Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is rising at an alarming rate and complicating the management of infectious diseases including lower respiratory tract infections (LRTI). Metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) is a recently established method for culture-independent LRTI diagnosis, but its utility for predicting AMR has remained unclear.

Ebook "Q’eqchi’ maya reproductive ethnomedicine" have an extensive pharmacopoeia of medicinal plants used traditionally for reproductive health and fertility, utilizing more than 60 plant species for these health treatments. Ten species were selected for investigation of their estrogenic activity using a reporter gene assay. Nine of the species were estrogenic, four of the species were also antiestrogenic, and two of the extracts were cytotoxic to the MCF-7 breast cancer cell line.

Global life satisfaction has been consistently linked to physical health. A deeper and culturally nuanced understanding of which domains of satisfaction may be responsible for this association has implications for developing novel, scalable, and targeted interventions to improve physical health at the population level.

Microbiological infection plays vital role in determining the outcome as well as cost and duration of the hospital stay for patients admitted in ICU setup. Of late nosocomial infections especially ventilator associated pneumonias (VAP) have been recognized to be associated with significant morbidity and mortality in intubated patients. It is of critical importance to do regular surveillance of important pathogen (like Methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), extended spectrum beta lactamase (ESBL) and carbapenemase producers) and its resistance pattern.

Blood stream infections can lead to life threatening sepsis and require immediate antimicrobial treatment. Blood culture is an essential tool for the investigation of clinically suspected bacteremia or septicemia. A timely detection of organism type and antibiotic susceptibility testing is critical for the effective treatment of the patient. Illness associated with blood stream infection ranges from self-limiting infections to life-threatening sepsis that require rapid and aggressive antimicrobial treatment.

Staphylococcus aureus, is ranked as the third most important cause of food borne illnesses in the world. This organism is considered as a pathogen of great concern due to various factors like high frequency of acquisition of antibiotic resistance, ability to cause a diverse array of life threatening infections and capacity to adapt to different environmental conditions.

Phenological studies at different stages of crop growth are important to mitigate the ill effects of climate change to which saffron is very much sensitive and to predict the production system modules involving cultural practices and crop protection systems. Study on phenological growth stages of natural temporal sub-populations of Kashmir saffron (Crocus sativus L.) carried over 2 years revealed that the ontogenesis period of saffron with above ground organs is almost similar to period showing no organs above ground.

Ventilator-associated pneumonia is defined as nosocomial pneumonia occurring more than 48 hours after patients have received mechanical ventilation. VAP in a critically ill patient significantly increases risk of mortality, ventilator time, length of stay and cost of care. The Endotracheal tube is a favourable site for biofilm formation. They are adherent cells which are embedded within a self-produced matrix of This EPS matrix impedes the normal functions of antibodies and the phagocytic cells of the immune system and leads to increased resistance to antibiotics.

Corynebacterium sp. is a Gram-positive, non-motile and facultatively anaerobic bacilli present in the environment as ubiquitous organism. A 45 day-old Holstein Friesian calf from University Livestock Farm (ULF), Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Mannuthy was reported with joint ill in both of its forelimbs. Using aseptic procedures, synovial fluid was collected from the right knee joint and inoculated on to blood agar and incubated at 37⁰ C for 24 to 48 hrs to isolate and identify the bacterial aetiology involved.

Acute pharyngitis is a very common illness that can be caused by different viruses and bacteria, Group A streptococci (GAS) being the most common bacterial cause. However, clinical examination cannot be used to differentiate viral and group A strep pharyngitis, even for experienced clinicians. Objectives of the study is to determine the impact of rapid antigen detection testing (RADT) to identify group A beta haemolytic Streptococcus in acute pharyngitis and to compare the RADT with throat swab culture in diagnosing acute GAS pharyngitis.
