Curcuma root

Bồng Nga truật, or Fingerroot, (Boesenbergia rotunda (L.) Mansf syn. Boesenbergia pandurata (Roxb.) Schltr.), also known as Ngải bún, is a common ginger species in Mekong Delta. Its tuber roots and rhizomes are often used to cook rice noodles as an alternative to Tumeric (Curcuma longa L.). This study was to primarily describe morphological and microanatomical figures of Bồng Nga truật, together with characteristic figures in rhizome and tuber root powder.

The aims of this study were to investigate the antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of some spice plants including cinamon bark, ginger root, curcuma root and piper leaves. The terms for investigation of antioxidant activity were DPPH radical scavenging activity and ferric reducing power.

The experiment was conducted with five treatments and four replications in Randomized Block Design (RBD) during Kharif season of 2016-17 at Agronomy Research Farm, N.D. University of Agriculture and Technology, Kumarganj, Ayodhya (U.P.). Five treatments are selected of which two treatments were supplied with 5 t/ha and 10 t/ha paddy straw mulch and other three non-mulched viz. four hand weedings alone, herbicide (metribuzin P.E.) with two hand weedings and weedy check.
