Microstructural, optical, AC dielectric impedance, and conductivity properties of pure PVA and PVA: NaSe SCF samples doped with various NaSe salt fillers were investigated. The XRD study confirmed the semicrystalline structure of the PolVA:NaSe SCF samples which explicated the semi-crystalline nature of the pure PolVA as a matrix.

The necessity to determine the physico-mechanical property such as energy requirement for cutting stalks important to design a cutter. The pendulum type test rig was found to be useful for measuring the impact cutting energy. So the pendulum type test rig was developed and calibrated. A linear relationship between the angle of release and reach with high co-efficient of determination (R2 ) for all the three weights was observed.

A study was under taken to investigate the effect of blade type, cutting velocity and cross sectional area of stalks on cutting energy and cutting force required for cutting of black gram stalks. A laboratory test rig consisting of a pendulum type impact tester was designed and developed to measure the cutting energy. The bundled black gram stalks were fitted firmly in the stalk holder to simulate natural stand of stalk in the field. Two types of blades viz., smooth edge and serrated types were used for the present study.

The effect of modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) with chemical treatment on physicochemical quality fresh-cut pears was investigated. Cut-pears were subjected to the following conditions: (1) MAP + Treated - (1% citric acid + 1% CaCl2) and stored in MAP at 8 ºC, (2) Treated - (1% citric acid + 1% CaCl2) and stored at room temperature and regular atmosphere, (3) MAP + Untreated - No chemical treatment and stored in MAP at 8 ºC, (4) Untreated - No chemical treatment and stored at room temperature and regular atmosphere.

In an endeavour of exploring alternative energy sources to petroleum based fuels, bioethanol (ethanol derived from biomass) is considered as the most promising renewable fuel because of its potential to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 86% and higher octane (ability to resist compression) rating than gasoline. Present investigation was aimed at bioconversion of paddy straw to ethanol using partially purified fungal cellulases. A variety of soil samples were tested for the presence of cellulolytic fungal strains using enrichment culture technique.

Fig fruit (Ficus carica) are the rich source of minerals, vitamins, and fiber. The moisture content of the ripen fig fruit is about 86 percent due to its high moisture content the fig fruit is readily prone to the attack of yeast and mould. In this study the fig fruit were cut in to slices and dehydrated by osmotic dehydration process. This process is preferred over others due to it is an energy intensive process with retention of initial fruit characteristics viz., aroma, texture, colour and nutritional composition.

The purpose of this work is to decrease energy consumption (EC) and average surface roughness(ASR) for the milling process of AISI H13 steel. The spindle speed (S), depth of cut (a), and feed rate (f) were the processing inputs. The milling runs were performed using the experimental plan generated by the Box-Behnken method approach. The relationships between inputs and outputs were established using the response surface models (RSM).

Energy requirement for cutting of different biomass materials depends on their properties and size which plays an important role in gasification process. In present study, the cutting energy required by the size reduction machine to cut selected different biomass materials viz., Pigeon pea stalk (Cajanus cajan), Cotton stalk (Gossypium hirsutum) and vilatyee babool (Prosopis juliflora) into different length of sizes viz., 25-50, 50-75 and 75-100 mm was assessed. Paddy straw is one of the major agriculture waste produced in India. Burning of paddy straw is one of the easy options for farmers due to its difficult handling which produces environmental problem generating greenhouse gases. Size reduction of paddy straw is necessary for almost it’s every possible utilization for biofuel production. Torrefaction mainly used to process lignocellulosic biomass that makes them easily cut, chop or grind. Torrefaction was carried out at 250°C for 20 and 30 minutes and compared its effect on energy requirement for size reduction with that of raw paddy straw.

This study investigated the uncertainty assessing wind-power production in valleys of complex terrain using Juneau, Alaska as the testbed. The wind-speed data stem from evaluated WRF/Chem simulations for seven tourist seasons (May 15 to September 15). The percentage of wind speeds between cut-in and cutout speed differed up to about 11% among tourist seasons and up to 15% among the examined wind-turbine types. The wind -speed probability density varied the strongest among tourist seasons for wind speeds less than 3 m∙s−1 (6 m∙s−1) for wind turbines with hub heights of about 80m (30m).
