In this study, a series of one-dimensional oedometer laboratory creep tests were conducted on samples subjected to cyclic loading in order to study the effect of overconsolidation ratio (OCR) and duration of preloading on the secondary consolidation coefficient of the soft clay.

Grain boundary strengthening is a method of strengthening materials by changing their average crystalize (grain) size, exhibiting the basic relationship between yield stress and the grain size of the materials. This methodology is based on the observation of grain boundaries that are insurmountable borders for dislocations and the number of dislocations located within a grain.

This paper presents a computational homogenization shakedown analysis of periodic perforated materials with von Mises matrices. The plastic behaviors of the perforated materials under cyclic macroscopic loads are studied by means of kinematic shakedown theorem and computational homogenization method.

In this study, the evolution of the dislocation cell structure and variation of mechanical properties of structural steel under low-cycle fatigue were studied using the indentation experiment, optical microscope, and transmission electron microscope examinations. The results indicated that the dislocation cell structure was well-formed under cyclic loading.

Long-term cyclic tensile testing with equine palmar/plantar tendons have not yet been performed due to problems in fixing equine tendons securely and loading them cyclically. It is well established that the biomechanical response of tendons varies during cyclic loading over time. The aim of this study was to develop a clamping device that enables repetitive cyclic tensile testing of equine superficial digital flexor tendon for at least 60 loading cycles and for 5 min.

CeO2 nanoparticles were used as an efficient catalyst for the preparation of cyclic β-aminoesters by threecomponent reaction between primary amines, ethyl acetoacetate, and chalcones in ethanol. Atom economy, low catalyst loading, reusable catalyst, and high yields of products are some of the important features of this protocol.

The prepared materials were characterized by using BET, TGA, XRD, and TEM techniques. Cyclic voltammetry was used in order to determine the electrocatalytic activity of the prepared catalyst for hydrogen oxidation and oxygen reduction reactions that occur in proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). The Pt loading obtained over the composite material was around 10%. TEM results showed highly dispersed and small nanoparticles over the composite material by using scCO2 deposition.

Polycarbazole/chitosan composite materials were synthesized electrochemically at various loadings of chitosan (Chi). Their electrochemical, structural, thermal, and morphological characterizations were investigated by cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermal gravimetry, and scanning electron microscopy. Further electrical conductivity was measured using a four-point probe technique.

Highly porous Ti matrix composites can be a solution for some of the major clinical concerns for the load bearing implants such as low tribocorrosion resistance, stress shielding, and lack of biological anchorage. In order to respond to these needs, highly porous Ti-TiB-TiNx in-situ composites were synthesized by pressureless sintering using BN as reactant and urea as space holder. Corrosion behaviour was investigated at body temperature, in phosphate buffer saline solution (PBS), by measuring open circuit potential (OCP) and cyclic polarization.

The results showed that Pt particles, deposited by dc-magnetron gun, surround the large Co-clusters deposited by rf-magnetron gun. In addition, the increase of Co content led to an increase in the electrochemical active surface area (EASA) from 23.75 m2 /gPt to 47.54 m2 /gPt for pure Pt and Pt:Co (1:3), respectively, which corresponded the improvement of the utilization of Pt by a factor of 1.91.

This paper presents a numerical analysis of the seismic behavior of square concrete filled steel tubular (CFST) columns. Finite element analysis (FEA) models in ABAQUS software were used to simulate a series of columns subjected to axial compression and cyclic lateral loading. The CFST columns were simulated using nonlinear tri-dimensional (3-D) finite elements for the infilled concrete, and nonlinear two-dimensional (2-D) finite elements for the steel tube.

Mechanical behaviour of bituminous mixtures is characterized by the great thermal sensitivity and the large viscous effects. This paper focuses on the linear viscoelastic (LVE) behaviour of bituminous mixtures that is considered for pavement design. The studied material is a GB3 mix (GB in French is “Grave Bitume”) which is often used for base course construction in France.

Proximal humeral fractures treated with locking plate can fail due to varus collapse, especially in osteoporotic bone with medial cortex comminution. The use of an intramedullary strut together with locking plate fixation may strengthen fixation and provide additional medial support to prevent the varus malalignment.
