Cystic endometrial hyperplasia-pyometra complex (CEH-P) is one of the most common uteropathies in bitches. In diseases with mild or obscure clinical signs and normal uterine size, a diagnosis based on a clinical assessment might be incorrect.

The resulting hormonal imbalance may affect ovulation. Eggs that are meant to be released and fertilized for conception are not able to mature and release and instead become small, fluid-filled sacs or cysts that surround the ovaries (hence the term poly ‘cystic’ ovary).

Physical activity (PA) is a well-documented and accepted adjunct therapy for the maintenance and improvement of long-term health in cystic fibrosis (CF). Although the benefts of PA for CF populations are well-established, adherence to PA programmes within this population remains low.

Early diagnosis and treatment of nontuberculous mycobacterial lung diseases (NTM-LD) and pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) are important clinical issues. The present study aimed to compare and identify the chest CT characteristics that help to distinguish NTM lung disease from PTB in patients with acid-fast bacilli (AFB) smear-positive sputum.

Preventative medication reduces hospitalisations in people with cystic fibrosis (PWCF) but adherence is poor. We assessed the feasibility of a randomised controlled trial of a complex intervention, which combines display of real time adherence data and behaviour change techniques.

The prevalence of non-cystic fibrosis (CF) bronchiectasis is increasing in both developed and developing countries in recent years. Although the main features remain similar, etiologies seem to change. Our aim was to evaluate the clinical and laboratory characteristics of our recent non-CF bronchiectasis patients and to compare these with our historical cohort in 2001.

Forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1) is the only parameter currently recognized as a surrogate endpoint in cystic fibrosis (CF) trials. However, FEV1 is relatively insensitive to changes in the small airways of patients with milder lung disease. This pilot study aimed to explore the lung clearance index (LCI) as a marker for use in efficacy trials with inhaled antibiotics in CF.

Treatment of patients with Cystic Fibrosis homozygous for the Phe508del gene, with Lumacaftor /Ivacaftor (LUM/IVA) improves outcomes in patients with FEV1 > 40% predicted. We set out to observe the most sensitive clinical measure that would change with treatment in terms of exercise capacity or lung function in adults with severe lung disease as defined by an FEV1 < 40% predicted when clinically stable.

In people with and without Cystic Fibrosis (CF), does side lying during nebulisation change: the proportion of the dose loaded in the nebuliser that is deposited in the lungs; the uniformity of deposition throughout the lungs; or the apical drug density as a percentage of the drug density in the remaining lung? Do these effects differ depending on the degree of lung disease present?

Little is known about risk factors for chronic and mucoid Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Pa) infection in cystic fibrosis (CF) adults, and whether the prevalence is changing. Methods: We employed a retrospective cohort to analyze data from a single adult CF center (2002 to 2012). Regression models were used to assess independent predictors and change in prevalence of chronic and mucoid Pa infection over time.

Pulmonary exacerbations (PEx) are a major driver of morbidity and mortality in cystic fibrosis and reducing their frequency by extending the time between them is an important therapeutic goal. Although treatment decisions for exacerbations are often made based on dynamic changes in lung function, it is not clear if these changes truly impact future exacerbation risk.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is the most common, life-threatening, autosomal-recessive disorder among Caucasians. To date, approximately 2000 mutations in the CFTR gene have been reported. Some of these mutations are very rare, and some represent individual sequence changes in the gene.

Canine pyometra is a common disease in bitches, middle-aged to old and dioestrous bitches are frequently affected. In the present study bitches suffering from pyometra show significantly higher resistance Doppler waveform of uterine arteries as compared to cystic endometrial hyperplasia (CEH) and normal dioestrus bitches. In case of dioestrus and CEH groups showed lower blood flow velocities when compared to pyometra groups. Conversely dioestrus and CEH groups show higher hemodynamic indices in comparison to pyometra groups.

Penetrating the lesion: Fixing the lesion with one hand, grasp the syringe with the needle attached (with or without syringe holder) by the dominant hand and introduce through the skin into the lesion, carefully and swiftly. The angle and depth of entry varies with the type of lesion. For small lesions, aspiration of central portion is indicated. For larger lesions that may have necrosis, cystic change or hemorrhage in the center, aspiration may be done from the periphery. If pus or necrotic material alone is aspirated from larger lesions, FNA can be repeated immediately from the periphery.

I have been involved in the treatment of chronic renal insuffi ciency for 40 years, beginning with peritoneal dialysis immediately after graduation from medical school in 1965, then with hemodialysis in 1967 after I fi rst experienced it in Kanazawa, and with renal transplantation since 1972, when I was studying in the United States. During this period, the number of dialysis patients has continued to increase rapidly to the present fi gure of 257 765 (at the end of 2005), and with surprising increases in the survival rate.
