Feed efficiency is one of the major components determining costs of animal production. Residual feed intake (RFI) is defined as the difference between the observed and the expected feed intake given a certain production.

Feed intake and growth are economically important traits in swine production. Previous genome wide association studies (GWAS) have utilized average daily gain or daily feed intake to identify regions that impact growth and feed intake across time.

In this study, 400 day-old straight-run Cobb 500 broiler chicks sourced from a commercial hatchery were randomly allotted to treatment following a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD). The treatments used were fivve ratios of SID Lysine (Lys) to metabilizable energy (ME) in diet of 3.61, 3.89, 4.17, 4.45, or 4.73 g SID Lys/Mcal ME.

Thirty two (32) no. of 6 to 9 months of age average body weight 88 kg were brought from a private dairy farm and were grouped into four (4 x 4). The treatment groups calf’s diet were formulated on iso-caloric and iso- protein basis with the graded level of inclusion dried rice distillers grains and solubles (DRDGS) @ 0% (TD0), 5% (TD5), 10% (TD10), 15%(TD15) respectively. Both concentrate and roughages were offered as per body weight of calves. Fortnightly feed intake, body weight gain and average daily gain (ADG) were calculated. Feed intake was not significantly (P>0.

The present study was undertaken to evaluate the effect of microclimate alteration devices and feed additives on productive performance and feed intake of lactating Murrah buffaloes during summer for a period of 90 days. Twenty four early lactating Murrah buffaloes of similar body weight, parity and milk yield were selected and distributed randomly into 4 equal groups by using randomized block design (RBD). The first group T1 was provided with foggers operated daily during hot hours from 12.00 Noon to 15.

An experiment was conducted to assess the growth performance of quails on supplementation of seaweeds. 600 numbers of day old quail chicks were randomly divided into four groups with five replicates and 25 chicks in each replicate. Seaweeds viz., Chaetomorpha antennina, Sargassum wightii and Gracilaria corticata were collected from Gulf of Mannar region and was dried and included in the ration @ 3 % level and treated as group - 2, 3 and 4, respectively. Quail on normal ration was kept as control (Group -1). The trial was conducted for six weeks period.

The present experiment was conducted to find out the effects of adding different levels (0, 0.1 and 0.5%) of garlic (Allium sativum) powder to the basal experimental diet on the feed intake, growth performance and economics of broiler chicks. One hundred and eighty (n=180) day old unsexed white commercial broiler chicks (Cobb-400) were randomly distributed into three dietary treatments of 60 birds/dietary treatment and each treatment contained 4 replicates (15 birds/replicate). The dietary treatments were control (T1-basal diet only), garlic powder supplemented at 0.1% (T2) and 0.

Study was planned to evaluate effect of high plan of nutrition on feed intake, growth, feed efficiency and cost of feeding in crossbred heifers (50% Holstein Friesian and 50% Kankrej inheritance). Twenty four crossbred heifers divided in two equal groups having similar body weight and age for twelve period of fifteen days. Heifers were fed concentrate, hybrid napier (Coimbture-3) and sorghum hay to meet nutrient requirement in control and 5-10% higher nutrients in treatment group.

High yielding crossbred cows are fed high amount of concentrate which poses metabolic disorders. TMR feeding is suitable for high concentrate feeding. RFI is a measure of efficiency which has not been explored in crossbred cows. Therefore present study was undertaken to study the effect of TMR feeding of performance and RFI in crossbred cows. Twelve cows were divided in to two groups of six animals each and fed ration with 60:40 roughage: concentrate ratio. The animals were fed individually and daily feed intake and refusal were recorded. The DM intake was calculated.

The present investigation was conducted to study the effects of different housing systems on growth performance, feed consumption, morbidity and mortality of broiler rabbits in semi arid region of North Gujarat. Total 24 weaned rabbits (28 days age) were randomly divided in two housing treatments, T1 (Cage housing) and T2 (Deep litter housing system). The duration of experiment was 8 weeks. Dimensions of cage were 3×2×2 feet (3 rabbits/cage) whereas, in deep litter, 12 rabbits were kept in 24 square feet area (2 square feet/rabbit).

The present study was aimed to study the effect of dietary supplementation of ajwain on the performance of broiler chicken. Two hundred and twenty five one-day old unsexed broiler chicks were used on a completely randomized design in 5 groups with 3 replicates, each consisting of 15 broilers. The treatments included the control group (basal diet) and four groups with basal diet + ajwain powder @ 0.1% in feed, basal diet + ajwain powder @ 0.2% in feed and basal diet + ajwain seeds soaked in drinking water over nightly @ 0.

The dromedary’s water intake is through drinking and the water in the feed. The need for drinking depends on environmental temperature and humidity and the water content of the feed. Under range conditions if water is readily available, camels may drink daily or may not for several days. The main water losses are from evaporative cooling of the skin, in urine and faeces, and even in these functions the conservation of water can be very efficient. During exercise physiology studies, obvious sweating was not observed.

Assessing nutrient status of animals. After registration, the animal’s daily feed intake, daily milk yield and milk fat percent are recorded. In addition, the animal’s body weight is also record- ed. Based on milk yield, milk fat percent, body weight and the pregnancy status, the animal’s nutrient requirement is computed by the software. Considering the prevailing feeding practices (feed intake), consumption of nutrients, e.g. energy (TDN; total digestible nutrients), protein, calcium and phosphorus is assessed.
