  • The nationwide imposition of lockdown due to Covid-19 adversely affected various agriculture allied occupations especially livestock and poultry sector. For dairy farmers reduced price of milk, lack of transportation means and lack of veterinary aids were major problems faced during the lockdown. Poultry farmers incurred massive losses due to rumours associated with chicken which caused collapse in demand for poultry products. Top ranked problems faced by poultry farmers include reduced availability of improved breeds, price and sale of egg or meat.

  • The present study was conducted in two agro-climatic zones; Central plain zone (CPZ) and Western plain zone (WPZ) of Punjab having maximum number of dairy animals according to 20th livestock census. The data were collected by using well structured interview schedule from 300 dairy farmers of CPZ and WPZ. Garrett‟s ranking technique was used to prioritize the different sets of constraints in terms of their mean score.

  • The present study was conducted on randomly selected 240 dairy farmers from Punjab contacted at various Kissan melas, Trainings, KVKs and seminars. 129 dairy farmers who were preparing self-made feed were selected as final respondents. The farmers were asked to rank reasons for likings of self-made feed and disliking of branded feed from 1st rank to 8 th rank according to Garret’s ranking technique on pre-selected reasons, which were compiled after scrutinizing relevant literature, consulting subject matter specialist and progressive farmers.

  • The present study was conducted in different districts of Punjab. 250 respondents were randomly selected and were interviewed personally the help of pretested interview schedule. Most of the farmers were middle aged and young. The education level of most of the farmers was more than high school. Most of the dairy farmers (52%) were medium dairy farmers followed by small dairy farmers (28%), large dairy farmers (12%) and very large dairy farmers (8%).

  • A purposive study was conducted on 200 cattle farmers selected randomly from all over Punjab. The data was collected by personal interview cum questionnaire schedule consisting of the management practices followed by the farmers and knowledge regarding the calf rearing practices. Data revealed that 60% farmers provided a separate calving pen for parturition but not all of them know the exact measurements.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relation of various management and feeding practices with the occurrence of uterine torsion in buffaloes. Five hundred and seven dairy buffalo farmers from 20 districts of Punjab state were surveyed using a questionnaire based on management practices in relation to occurrence of uterine torsion.

  • Livestock sector plays important role in Indian economy. The dairy industry can go a long way in augmenting the income of the farmers. The present paper focuses on the factors affecting farm income. The study was conducted in the two agroclimatic zones of Punjab state i.e. kandi and plain zone. From each zone two districts, one block from each district and further three villages from each block and fifteen farmers from each village were selected randomly. The data was collected with personal interview method. The annual income realized by farmers varied a lot in both the regions.

  • The present study was conducted to evaluate the scenario of the livestock markets in central plain zone of Punjab. There are total 5 big livestock markets in the central plain zone of Punjab. Out of these three markets namely Jagraon, Sadhugarh and Khanna deals majorly with productive animals sale purchase while rest two deals with sale-purchase of unproductive buffaloes (senile, calves etc) for meat purpose only. Present study was conducted in above mentioned three productive animal markets, two of which are modern and one is of traditional nature.

  • The present study was conducted to know the selective breeding, feeding and management practices followed by dairy farmers in Punjab. A total of 150 farmers were selected randomly and divided into three categories, small (n=48), medium (n=74) and large (n=28). With help of well-structured interview schedule and pretested questionnaire data were collected w.r.t. breeding, feeding and management practices being followed. The data revealed that the farmers offered 20-40 kg of green fodder and 2-5 kg of concentrate mixture to dairy animals, but only 23.

It improves the digestion of low-quality roughages and acts as a blend of energy, protein and minerals.   • 250 dairy farmers were randomly contacted in Punjab during regional kisan melas conducted by the university. They were subjected to interview schedule to study their knowledge and practices being adopted to control aflatoxin in the dairy rations.   • For effective extension of technologies it is utmost important that it should be based on the needs of end users. As it is the basic principle of extension that any extension programme should be based on needs and interest of the client.
