Data collection including reflective journal

This paper investigates the development of intercultural awareness and attitudes through four case studies of Vietnamese second-year students of English major in two different learning contexts of an English Speaking course over a nine-week teaching period at the University of Foreign Language Studies, the University of Danang. Data collection methods include the students’ reflective journals and individual interviews.

Reading skill has played a very important part in learning a foreign language. However, most students seem to face many difficulties in this skill. This study was conducted to find out difficulties and solutions on learning reading skill for non English majored students at Hung Yen University of Technology and Education (UTEHY). To achieve the aims of the study, qualitative methodology was chosen and two methods of data collection including reflective journal and survey were employed.

The present study was carried out to investigate students’ perceptions of the process of learning to write emails in English. The participants comprised of 100 high school students of grade 11. Data collection methods include questionnaire, interview and reflective journals. The study found that students had good awareness of email writing skills in the classroom. They shared their viewpoints on the process of learning to write emails in English both negatively and positively, with positive opinions outweighing negative ones.

This emphasizes the necessity of exploring necessary English competencies in oral communication that BA graduates need to work effectively in the demanding market. In the present research, both quantitative and qualitative data were collected in a mixed methods study, in which various sources of participants including BA graduates from Foreign Trade University, Vietnam University of Commerce and National Economics University, and their employers at workplace involved.
