This paper therefore includes the maturity of the debt as an explicit variable that impacts corporate long term investment. Our evidence supports earlier findings that because of asymmetric information and other market imperfections, small companies face more financing constraints than large companies, and have difficulties accessing long term finance.

The research aims to analyze the impact of financing decisions on investment ones and examine the relationships between leverage, debt maturity structure, investment and growth opportunities. A systembased model is employed, including three structural equations in which leverage, debt maturity and investment are adopted as endogenous variables.

The government recognized most of its financial liabilities towards private depositors and committed itself to paying all the frozen deposits by 2011. Nevertheless, this law was, from the very beginning, full of technical and practical difficulties. It assumed the debt conversion into bonds on a voluntary basis. The bonds were issued in paper format and thus were liable to forgery and theft. The non-electronic format of bonds proved to be complicated for trading and clearing procedures as well.
