The sea and islands are a part of Vietnam's sacred territory, constituting the national sovereignty, serving as a gateway for international exchanges, and holding a particularly important position in the national construction, development and defense.

This article analyzes current views of the Communist Party of Vietnam on the protection of sovereignty over the sea and islands of the country, such as asserting the country’s sovereignty in general and on the sea and islands, management and protection of the sea and islands; development of economy associated with the enhancing the country’s defense and security; using flexible and wise solutions to solve disputes on islands; mobilization of the strength of the entire country and political system; taking advantages of diplomacy in protecting the national sea-island sovereignty.

GmrSD is a modification-dependent restriction endonuclease that specifically targets and cleaves glucosylated hydroxymethylcytosine (glc-HMC) modified DNA. It is encoded either as two separate single-domain GmrS and GmrD proteins or as a single protein carrying both domains. Previous studies suggested that GmrS acts as endonuclease and NTPase whereas GmrD binds DNA.

In early summer 2004, off the northern coast of the North Island of New Zealand, four swimmers were suddenly surrounded by a pod of bottlenose dolphins herding them into a tight circle. The dolphins were agitated, flapping at the water, and they continuously circled the swimmers, keeping them close together for over half an hour. A lifeguard patrolling in a boat nearby saw the commotion and dove in with the swimmers to find out what was happening. While under water, he saw a great white shark, now swimming away, beneath the swimmers.
