Beta-glucosidase (BGL) is an enzyme involved in the degradation of cellulose and plays an essential part in many biological processes. Currently, most BGLs applied in the industry are derived from fungi. Exploring novel BGLs with desired properties is attractive.

The results showed that 02 bacterial strains and 06 actinomycete strains were selected from 32 isolates. Then, we optimized the growing conditions of the screened microorganisms. Among actinomycetes strains PU1.1, PU2.1 gave the highest weight loss results, therefore they were selected for further study. Our results showed that TG2.1 and CM4.1 are Bacillus subtilis. PU1.1 is Streptomyces lilacs, while PU1.2 is Streptomyces Misiones. The selected microorganisms belong to risk group level 1 (safety group).

Hydroxyapatite-associated bacterial cellulose (BC/HA) is a promising composite for biomedical applications. However, this hybrid composite has some limitations due to its low in vivo degradability. The objective of this work was to oxidize BC and BC/HA composites for different time periods to produce 2,3 dialdehyde cellulose (DAC).

The thermogravimetric method was used to determinate the kinetic parameters as the activation energy, the pre-exponnential factor and the order of reaction. The three constituents of balsa (i.e. hemicellulose, cellulose and lignin) were well identified and the decomposition temperature region well characterized. The presence of a large quantity of water affects the thermal decomposition behaviour of wood inducing notably a maximal degradation temperature.

In this study, the ethanol degradation ability of the catalyst, which was added with 0; 0.5; 1, and 1.5% liquid glass and calcined at 400 and 500 oC, was determined. TiO2 nanotubes after preparation have a uniform diameter from 10-12 nm and an average length of about 150nm, specific surface area increases markedly compared to commercial granules (nearly 15 times).

Continuous efforts are being made to utilize the fibre feeds to the maximum extent in ruminants which form a staple feed in tropical countries. Though only about 65% of the fibre is effectively digested in the rumen, need to supplement certain exogenous fibrolytic enzymes (EFE) has become mandatory. The main principle with which EFE is added is to specifically target the increased bacterial multiplication of certain species which enhances rumen degradation of cellulose which constitutes the major part of the forages.

Polysaccharide monooxygenases (PMOs) catalyze oxidative degradation of recalcitrant carbohydrate chains in cellulose, starch, and chitin. In biofuel industry, the conversion of rich lignocellulose source to fermentable sugars by hydrolytic cellulases can be synergistically boosted by cellulose-active PMOs (AA9 PMOs) found in a vast number of fungi that grow on biomass.

Phragmites australis, common pond reed with high lignocelluloses content is suitable for bioethanol production. In the present study pretreated pond reed was first fermented to sugars using cellulose and xylan degrading microorganisms isolated from cow dung and organic kitchen waste. Further fermentation of sugars to ethanol was performed using combinations of Sachharomyces cerevisae, Trichoderma reesei and Pichia stipitis.

Geotextiles a natural product at eco-friendly and biodegradable in nature, act as useful ameliorative to climate the soil related constrains of crop production. Biodeterioration of cellulose fiber results from the reduction at die polymerization leading to loss textile strength. It also helps to protect the most vital natural resources of soil and water from various degradation processes by erosion of soil and runoff water. It plays a vital role in increasing moisture holding capacity in soil, improving water uptake and drainage capacity.

Cellulose constitutes bulk of the plant cell wall materials and the most abundant and renewable non-fossil carbon source on earth. Cellulose degrading fungi play an important role in recycling of cellulosic materials. Thus, this study was designed to screen endophytic fungi isolated from Cameroonian medicinal plants for their cellulase activity. The plate-clearing assay and enzyme assay methods were used for screening of potent cellulolytic endophytic fungi. The promising was chosen for filter paper cellulase (FPCase) and carboxymethyl cellulase (CMCase) assay.

Waxes are esters of long-chain fatty acids with long-chain fatty alcohols found abundant in the environment in various forms. Bacteria degrading these waxes in agricultural residues, soils and insects are gaining increased attention. In India, about 500 million tonnes of crop residues are generated annually and these crop residues are rich in cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin, pectin, cutin, waxes, fats and oils. Accumulation of waxy rich crop residues in the environment decreases the rate of decomposition and increase the hydrophobicity of soils.

Lignocellulose is the most abundant plant residue which is composed of cellulose, hemicelluloses and lignin. Some filamentous fungi have developed the ability to use cellulose, hemicelluloses and lignin as energy source. The objective of this research was to analyze the effect of three metal ions (Manganese sulfate, Ferrous sulfate and Zinc sulfate) on the lignocellulolytic activity of four fungal isolates HST11, HST14, HST15 and HST16 under submerged conditions.

An experiment was conducted for isolation of cellulolytic microorganisms from diverse environments. Samplings were done from 8 locations representing 27 samples viz. forest ecosystem, composting units, incorporation experiments and agricultural fields. A total of 653 microorganisms including bacteria, actinomycetes and fungi were isolated using serial dilution plate assay. All the cultures were initially screened for cellulolytic potential using carboxy methyl cellulose medium on the basis of zone of hydrolysis obtained.
