  • Nine typical pedons from Langate Block of Kupwara district during 2017 were selected and surveyed for the purpose of collection of soil samples. The soil samples processed and analyzed for different nutrients. Available Micro and Macro nutrients were determined using standard techniques. The overall results showed that the soils are near slightly acidic to moderate alkaline in reaction, low to medium in organic carbon. In general the soils The available nutrients Nitrogen and Potassium were low to medium with the mean values of 287.99 and 149.

  • The present study revealed that pH of pear orchard soils increased with decrease in altitude while as organic carbon decreased with decrease in altitude. The textural class of soils ranged between clay loam to silt clay loam with normal electrical conductivity. The available nitrogen status was low to medium, whereas, available phosphorus status was medium to high and available potassium status was high.

  • A study on forms and distribution of carbon in the soils of Dambal sub-watershed of Mundargi taluk of Gadag district, Karnataka was undertaken during 2018-19. One representative soil profile for each soil series was selected to represent twenty two soil series identified under Sujala-III project. Depth wise soil samples were collected and analysed for forms of carbon. Soils were generally sandy clay loam to clay in texture, bulk density and particle density increased with depth and on contrary porosity was decreased with depth.

  • Among the various Sub-catchments in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, the Namblan Subcatchment of Jhelum basin has not been studied in view of the nutrient status of the soils. Based on variations in vegetation, altitude, land use and soil heterogeneity six representative soil profiles were exposed and studied for their depth wise distribution of Nutrient. Soil samples collected thereof, were analyzed for various macro and micro nutrients. While as the increasing trend was followed by the macro-nutrients and micro nutrients. The contents of nitrogen and potassium were in the range of 231.

  • A study was undertaken during 2017-18 to identify the distribution of forms of carbon and carbon stock in different land management units (LMUs) of Kanginhal sub-watershed in Gadag district of Karnataka. Horizon-wise soil samples were collected from each LMU and analyzed for organic carbon, water soluble carbon, active carbon, inorganic carbon and total carbon. Organic carbon, water soluble carbon and active carbon were decreased with depth in all the LMUs, whereas inorganic and total carbon did not follow any definite trend.

  • A study was undertaken to characterize fine textured Inceptisols morphologically, physically and chemically. Seven profiles in fine textured and four in coarse textured Inceptisols under different cropping systems (rice-wheat, maize-wheat, sugarcane, fallow-berseem and rice-sorghum) were exposed for the morphological, physical and chemical characterization. The soils showed remarkable closeness irrespective of profile locations and horizons. All the studied soils exhibited A-Bw-C horizons in coarse textured Inceptisols and A-B horizons in fine textured Inceptisols.

  • A field survey and laboratory analysis carried out on “Depth wise Distribution of Heavy Metals in Different Soil Series of Northwestern India” was conducted during 2017-18 in five well established soil series which are comes under Aeolian and upper alluvial plain of Hisar district. The profile samples up to depth of 90 cm. i.e. 0-15, 15-30, 30-60, 60-90 cm, using GPS were collected and analyzed for total concentrations of heavy metals (Pb, Cr, Cd, Co and Ni). The total lead content was initially increased with depth then further decreased in Balsamand.
