The main aim of this study to isolate and identify the fungi causing dermatophytosis. Also this study of dermatophytosis was carried out in the Department of Microbiology, KLE’S Dr. PrabhakarKore Hospital and Medical Research Centre Belgaum, over a Period of one year.

The present study was carried out to know the prevalence of superficial fungal infection caused by dermatophytes and to speciate them which may help to control the infection. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of superficial fungal skin infections caused by dermatophytes, to study the clinic-mycological pattern and to speciate the isolated ones using standard mycological tests. This was a prospective study carried out over a period of one year from June 2014 to May 2015.

Dermatophytosis is a superficial infection of the keratinized layers of the skin and its appendages (hair, feathers, horns) of farm, domesticated and wild animals and birds. The lesions are frequently ring shaped, hence the disease is called ring worm. The present article reports on the laboratory examination of skin scraping sample collected from a cow clinically infected with dermatophyte infection.

The present article reports on the laboratory examination of skin scraping sample collected from a camel clinically infected with dermatophyte infection. The samples were examined by direct microscopical examination by placing the skin scrapings and/or hairs in 20% KOH on a glass slide and gentle heating, without boiling. The dermatophyte identification was made based on the colony characteristics and microscopic features of the fungal isolates according to the methods. The present study revealed the presence of superficial dermatophyte skin infection in the affected camel.

Diabetes mellitus is the most common endocrine disorder and takes on pandemic proportions. Dermatophytosis remains a significant public health problem. The objective of the study was to study the prevalence of Dermatophytic infection among diabetic and non- diabetic patients. It is a cross sectional study conducted during July 2011 to July 2012. All clinically diagnosed cases of dermatophytosis attending the Dermatology OPD of were included in the study. Among those 40 diabetic and 40 non diabetic Patients were included.

Dermatophytes are among the common fungal agents implicated in superficial skin infections worldwide. Infections commonly occur in hot and humid climates. They include species of Trichophyton, Microsporum and Epidermophyton. The present study was done to assess the clinical profile of dermatophytic infections and to identify the species of fungi that are prevalent in this region. A total of 80 samples consisting of skin scrapings, nail scrapings and hair follicles were collected from patients presenting with different ringworm/ tinea infections.

Dermatophytosis is the major health problem in worldwide. The three genera of dermatophytes are Microsporum, Trichophyton and Epidermophyton. Among them, Trichophyton spp are the predominant ones causing infection and also associated with recurrence and resistance to antifungal therapy. The dermatophytic infections affect all age groups. In the present study 86 number of skin scrapings were collected from various breeds like Labrador retriever (n=32), German shepherd (n=21), Spitz (n=9), Dacshund (n=16), Mastiff (n=5), Boxer (n=3) and age groups from 6 months to, above 3 year with characteristics ring like lesions, alopecia, irregular patches of hair loss. All the dogs were presented to teaching veterinary clinical complex, Odisha veterinary college from December 2018 to June 2019.On routine identification of fungus out of 86 number of skin scrappings it was revealed that arthospores were present in 54 number of samples.

Onychomycosis is a fungal infection of the finger or toe nail caused by various fungal agents like dermatophytes, non dermatophytes moulds and yeasts. It is necessary to diagnose the infection with proper laboratory evidences before treating them with antifungal drugs, which require prolonged duration of treatment and may have adverse side effects. This study involves comparison of standard laboratory tests in the diagnosis of onychomycosis, namely, potassium hydroxide mount (KOH mount), Calcofluor white staining and fungal culture of the nail clippings.

Dermatophytes are keratinophilic fungus that infects skin, hair and nails. They belong to the genera Trichophyton, Microsporum and Epidermophyton. Some infections are caused by non dermatophytic filamentous fungi which are often resistant to treatment used for infections caused by dermatophytes. Aim of the study is to isolate and enumerate dermatophytes and other fungi from clinically suspected cases of Dermatomycoses, to co-relate the isolate and findings with clinical presentations and to analyse the Dermatophyte test medium for the growth of dermatophytes. Hundred (100) clinically suspected cases of dermatophytosis and dermatomycoses attending Dermatology O.P.D., was selected for the study including hair, skin and nail samples. It was a prospective and descriptive study.
