Trichophyton rubrum is a causative agent responsible for human chronic dermatophytosis worlwide. It is a common causative agent of the dermatophyte infections and resistant to many antifungal drugs. Oxidative damaging agents belong to a strong antimicrobial group and have been intensively investigated.

Trichophyton mentagrophytes is an important zoonotic dermatophytic (ringworm) pathogen; causing severe skin infection in humans and other animals worldwide. Fortunately, commonly used fungal skin disease prevention and treatment measures are relatively simple. The present study was carried out to know the prevalence of superficial fungal infection caused by dermatophytes and to speciate them which may help to control the infection. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of superficial fungal skin infections caused by dermatophytes, to study the clinic-mycological pattern and to speciate the isolated ones using standard mycological tests. This was a prospective study carried out over a period of one year from June 2014 to May 2015.

Dermatophytosis is a superficial infection of the keratinized layers of the skin and its appendages (hair, feathers, horns) of farm, domesticated and wild animals and birds. The lesions are frequently ring shaped, hence the disease is called ring worm. The present article reports on the laboratory examination of skin scraping sample collected from a cow clinically infected with dermatophyte infection.

The present article reports on the laboratory examination of skin scraping sample collected from a camel clinically infected with dermatophyte infection. The samples were examined by direct microscopical examination by placing the skin scrapings and/or hairs in 20% KOH on a glass slide and gentle heating, without boiling. The dermatophyte identification was made based on the colony characteristics and microscopic features of the fungal isolates according to the methods. The present study revealed the presence of superficial dermatophyte skin infection in the affected camel.

Diabetes mellitus is the most common endocrine disorder and takes on pandemic proportions. Dermatophytosis remains a significant public health problem. The objective of the study was to study the prevalence of Dermatophytic infection among diabetic and non- diabetic patients. It is a cross sectional study conducted during July 2011 to July 2012. All clinically diagnosed cases of dermatophytosis attending the Dermatology OPD of were included in the study. Among those 40 diabetic and 40 non diabetic Patients were included.

Dermatophytes are among the common fungal agents implicated in superficial skin infections worldwide. Infections commonly occur in hot and humid climates. They include species of Trichophyton, Microsporum and Epidermophyton. The present study was done to assess the clinical profile of dermatophytic infections and to identify the species of fungi that are prevalent in this region. A total of 80 samples consisting of skin scrapings, nail scrapings and hair follicles were collected from patients presenting with different ringworm/ tinea infections.

Dermatophytes are a group of closely related keratinophilic fungi that can invade keratinized humans and animals tissues such as skin, hair and nails causing dermatophytosis. They are an important cause of superficial fungal infection. Twenty atopic dogs presented during the period of study were checked for fungal infections using trichography, wood’s lamp examination and fungal culture. Four (2 %) animals were found affected with dermatophyte infections along with atopic dermatitis indicating the importance of concurrent dermatophytosis in atopic dogs.

In the present study 86 number of skin scrapings were collected from various breeds like Labrador retriever (n=32), German shepherd (n=21), Spitz (n=9), Dacshund (n=16), Mastiff (n=5), Boxer (n=3) and age groups from 6 months to, above 3 year with characteristics ring like lesions, alopecia, irregular patches of hair loss. All the dogs were presented to teaching veterinary clinical complex, Odisha veterinary college from December 2018 to June 2019.On routine identification of fungus out of 86 number of skin scrappings it was revealed that arthospores were present in 54 number of samples.

Onychomycosis is a fungal infection of the finger or toe nail caused by various fungal agents like dermatophytes, non dermatophytes moulds and yeasts. It is necessary to diagnose the infection with proper laboratory evidences before treating them with antifungal drugs, which require prolonged duration of treatment and may have adverse side effects. This study involves comparison of standard laboratory tests in the diagnosis of onychomycosis, namely, potassium hydroxide mount (KOH mount), Calcofluor white staining and fungal culture of the nail clippings.
