Desirable significant positive heterosis
-
Ten parents along with forty-five hybrids (developed by half-diallel) and one check (Lok 1) were evaluated in randomized block design with three replications in three environments [early sowing (E1), normal sowing (E2) and late sowing (E3)] during rabi 2016-17. The significant and positive heterobeltiosis was recorded for grain yield per plant by seven crosses in E1; nine crosses in E2; and six crosses in E3, while 31 crosses in E1; 19 crosses in E2; and 38 crosses in E3 exhibited significant and positive standard heterosis.

The present investigation was carried out during the year 2016-17 and 2017-18 at Narendra Deva University of Agriculture and Technology, Ayodhya with the objective to estimate heterotic responses in yield component traits in 45 hybrid combinations developed by crossing 15 lines (females) with 3 testers (males). The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design with three replications and observations were recorded on 5 randomly selected plants for 12 quantitative traits.

Studies on heterosis in cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) was undertaken at ZAHRS, Navule, Shivamogga district, Karnataka during kharif and rabi seasons of year 2016-17. A total of 27 crosses were developed by crossing with nine lines with each of three testers. All the crosses were evaluated along with the parents in randomized block design with two replications. The hybrid Pebkamal × Haveri Local reported the significant negative heterobeltiosis for days to first female flower appearance, node at which first male and female flower appear.

A study on heterosis for seed cotton yield and fibre quality traits was carried out at Agricultural Research Station, Dharwad farm during kharif 2017. The material comprised of 28 intraspecific hybrids, their parents and standard check DHH-11 which were evaluated in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with two replications. The analysis of variance indicated the presence of substantial variability among the experimental materials for yield and fibre quality traits.
