In this paper we present the development of a new direction in so-called optofluidics, namely the research of photonic crystal fibers (PCF) infiltrated with liquids. In particular we concentrate on the flagship application of PCF, the process of Supercontinuum Generation (SG), in which injected monochromatic pulse may be dramatically broadened (spectrally), which creates a coherent beam generation of high brightness comparable to that of monochromatic lasers.

The objective of the thesis is to develop the iterative method and combining it with other methods to study qualitative and especially the method of solving some two-point boundary problems for the fourth-order differential equations and systems, arising in beam bending theory without using condition of growth rate at infinity, Nagumo condition, etc. of the right-hand side function.

. In the pile-soil model, the lateral load is located at the pile head including both lateral force and bending moment. The single pile is considered as a beam on elastic foundation while shear beams model the soil column below the pile toe. The differential equations governing pile deflections are derived based on the energy principles and variational approaches.

An analytical and numerical solution is developed for a transient heat conduction equation in which a plane slab is heated by a bimodal distribution beam over the upper surface. In laser heat treatment of steel few methods are used to produce a wider and nearly uniform average irradiance profile.

In this paper, a higher-order Timoshenko beam element is developed and employed in studying free vibration of 2-D FGM Timoshenko beams. The material properties of the beams are considered to vary in both the thickness and longitudinal directions by a power-law distribution. Based on Timoshenko beam theory, equations of motion are derived from Hamilton’s principle and they are solved by a finite element procedure based on the developed beam element.

This thesis aims to develop finite element models for studying vibration of FGM porous beams in thermal environment under moving loads. Both analytical method and finite element analysis are employed in the thesis. The analytical method is used to derive equations of motion for the beam, and the finite element method is then employed to solve the governing equations and to determine the dynamic characteristics of the beams.

The main objective of the present paper is to study the transverse vibration of the prestressed beams. The differential equation of the transverse vibration of the Euler-Bernoulli beam is developed, in which the initial axial strain in every cross section of the beam is taken into account, so that the initial normal stress is not equal to zero. We have proposed some formulae to determine the natural frequencies of the prestressed beam.
