Weeding is one of the major control operations in the vegetable crops. The traditional method of weed control is to remove the weed manually by a Khurpi or Spade. This is a very time consuming process. Due to shortage of agricultural labour in peak season, farmers cannot compete weeding in time. Farming comprises of land preparation, sowing, plant protection, harvesting and post harvesting. The power source of farm machinery in every aspect is an engine, which is the costliest one in relation with the remaining parts of that machinery. If we could use the same source of power for different aspects, investment could be benefitted with multipurpose operations. Most of the farmers own some frequently required equipment like sprayer for fertigation.

A rotary power weeder was designed and developed. The developed weeder consisted of frame, engine, tyne, wheel and handle. Weeding efficiency, field efficiency and plant damage of developed rotary weeder was 70.5%, 65% and 3.2%, respectively. The fuel consumption and field capacity of developed rotary power weeder was 0.8 l/h and 0.09 ha/h, respectively.
