Acute appendicitis is one of the most common causes of lower abdominal pain leading patients to admit the emergency department. Besides those developed paraclinical tests, ultrasound is the priority to support the diagnosis. Objectives: To survey and update the ultrasonographic characteristics of acute appendicitis in diagnosis at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital.

The research focuses on the composition of a hard capsule formula containing the extracts of Houttuynia cordata, Morus alba, and Carica papaya as well as the development of testing standards for prepared hard capsules. Materials and methods: the ratio of adsorbents and fillers in the formula was investigated so that the granules had low moisture, a suitable flow rate, and the appropriate apparent density for packaging.

This thesis describes a quality method that was developed to measure the quality of a tool or technique based on the results it produces. Based on the results of these measurements on current carving tools, a number of areas were identified that could be improved. A new carving framework was developed to address these points of improvements, and its results were tested using the previously developed quality method. The new carving framework achieved significantly better results on all identified improvement areas.

The hazard identification is done using a crash risk probability model and based on the identification, mitigation strategy is employed to reduce the effect of the hazard. The prediction of the expected long-term performance of concrete exposed to sewage and similar materials can be difficult as it is affected by a large number of parameters. In addition, the deterioration process in concrete is generally slow. The focus of the study was to ascertain the life expectancy of concrete septic tanks located in rural Victoria. In this thesis, the rolling contact wear of 52100 bearing steel and Over-aged Magnesia-Partially-Stabilised Zirconia (OA-Mg-PSZ) ceramic are examined using a newly developed rolling contact wear test rig. The new wear test rig simulates the system geometry of an un-lubricated hybrid (ceramic and steel) ball bearing. The new wear test rig is versatile in that it allows low cost samples to be utilised resulting in a larger number of samples that can be tested.

This study focuses on experimental testing and subsequent numerical analysis of impacted and pre-loaded composite coupons and bonded composite scarf joints under varying impact conditions. A methodology will be developed for the numerical modelling of preloaded impact tests to enable capture of critical failure modes and ultimate failure. The main aim is to validate a modelling strategy that will provide accurate failure characterisation of the tested joints using numerical analysis.

This study investigated the sublethal effects of salinity on four macroinvertebrate species commonly occurring in Australian freshwater ecosystems. These were; the introduced worm Lumbriculus variegatus Müller (Annelida: Oligochaeta), the introduced snail Physa acuta Draparnaud (Gastropoda: Physidae), the shrimp Paratya australiensis Kemp (Decapoda: Atyidae) and the midge Chironomus tepperi Skuse (Diptera: Chironomidae). The effects of salinity on growth, development and reproduction of these species were investigated through a series of laboratory tests.

The purpose of this project is to enable the prediction of flow behaviour of concentrated slurries in the pipe loop under various laminar flow conditions using the fluid analogue to slurry and to find the suitable rheological model from the literature for the fluid analogue and tailings from the Sunrise dam. The major objective of the project is to develop a fluid analogue which will have similar rheological behaviour to that of the tailings from Sunrise dam so that it can be used as a test material to predict the flow behaviour of tailings in a pipe.
