Although useful in the emergency treatment of pelvic ring injuries, external fixation is associated with pin tract infections, the patient’s limited mobility and a restricted surgical accessibility to the lower abdomen. In this study, the mechanical stability of a subcutaneous internal anterior fixation (SIAF) system is investigated.

Staphylococcus epidermidis is a common commensal of the skin and mucous membranes of humans. However, it is a common cause of nosocomial infection especially infection associated with the insertion of biomedical devices. Glycans have been shown to mediate vast majority of biological processes and its alterations have been reported to be used as biomarkers and applied in diagnosis of malignancies and infections. The absolute mean Optical Density (OD450nm) of the biofilm was calculated as 0.248± 0.044SD and the biofilm was observed to strongly adhere to the microtitre plate surface.

Infection by HIV and other STIs and unplanned pregnancies are among the most serious problems associated with sexuality. Male and female condoms are the only dual-purpose devices to control both unplanned pregnancies and STIs, and studying people’s attitudes toward the use of these devices are excellent ways to predict their use.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) defines CAUTI for those patients who have an indwelling catheter in place for 48 h or more and symptoms such as fever or chills, new onset of burning pain, urgency or frequency if not catheterized at that point of time, change in urine character, flank or suprapubic pain or tenderness or change or decrease in mental or functional status in patients. CAUTI is usually presence of at least 10³ colony-forming units (cfu)/mL of 1 or 2 micro-organisms by urine culture.

Electronic devices are increasingly used by the healthcare workers. They can get contaminated with pathogenic organisms and can act as a source of healthcare associated infections. In this study we aimed to determine the bacterial contamination rates of the electronic devices handled by the healthcare workers posted in high risk areas like ICU’s, NICU’s and operation theatres. Swabs were collected from personal electronic devices of 40 healthcare workers and from 33 common devices used in high risk areas.

Biofilms are surface associated bacterial communities surrounded by a matrix of exopolymers. Biofilms contribute to the development of persistent infections due to their refractiveness to antibiotic therapy. The purpose of this study was to evaluate three methods for detection of biofilm formation in different indwelling devices.

Coagulase-Negative Staphylococcus (CoNS) comprise an ever-expanding group of bacteria whose medical importance has emerged in the past decades. They have become one of the most frequent nosocomial pathogens isolated from blood cultures, often in association with intravascular devices and as a cause of deep-seated prosthetic implant infections (Parameswaran et al., 2011).

Bacterial infections and antibiogram in device associated infections in MICU, ICU of hospital. The study was carried during the period of Jan 2017 to Dec 2017 in Bacteriology section department of Microbiology in Government Medical College and hospital Aurangabad. 530 samples received from patients of ICU and MICU of hospital for culture and sensitivity. Out of which 330/530 (62%) samples were from endotracheal secretions suspected of pneumonia and 90/530 (17%) were Urine samples and 75/530 (14%) were blood samples. Samples were processed identified by different biochemical reactions.

The use of indwelling devices both temporary and permanent, in medical and surgical practice has led to the emergence of implant associated infections in the patients admitted in a Tertiary care hospital leading to partial or complete therapeutic failure. The study was conducted to detect and compare biofilm production in bacteria isolated from device related (DR) and non-device related (NDR) infections by Tissue Culture Method (TCP).

Microbial contamination of mobile phones a potential threat to the patients: A cross sectional study
Mobile communication devices help accelerate the hospital flow of medical information but can serve as a "foe" for the patients when they act as a potential vector for transmitting nosocomial infections. This study aimed to describe the role of the cell phones in transmitting bacteria to dominant hands of the HCW’s in the various ICU’s as MediCiti Institute of Medical Sciences, emphasizing the role of mobiles in the spread of HAI. It was a cross-sectional study including HCW’s at various ICU’s in our hospital.

The costs of hospital-acquired (nosocomial) and other health care– associated infections are great. It is estimated that these infections affect 2 million patients, cost $4.5 billion, and contribute to 88,000 deaths in U.S. hospitals annually. Efforts to lower infection risks have been challenged by the growing numbers of immunocompromised patients, antibiotic-resistant bacteria, fungal and viral superinfections, and invasive devices and procedures.

Other Gram-Negative Bacteria Achromobacter xylosoxidans A. xylosoxidans (previously Alcaligenes xylosoxidans) is probably part of the endogenous intestinal flora and has been isolated from water sources. Immunocompromised hosts, including patients with cancer and post- chemotherapy neutropenia, cirrhosis, and chronic renal failure, are at increased risk. Nosocomial outbreaks of A. xylosoxidans infection have been attributed to contaminated fluids, and clinical illness has been associated with isolates from many sites, including blood (often in the setting of intravascular devices).

Chryseobacterium Species (Formerly Flavobacterium) C. meningosepticum is an important cause of nosocomial infections, including outbreaks due to contaminated fluids (e.g., disinfectants and aerosolized antibiotics) and sporadic infections due to indwelling devices, feeding tubes, and other fluid-associated apparatuses. Patients with nosocomial C. meningosepticum infection usually have underlying immunosuppression (e.g., related to malignancy). C.
