Different growing media

In this study, we aimed to determine the best agricultural waste media mixtures for Ganoderma carnosum Pat. cultivation, which is almost unknown in Turkey. Six different growing mixtures were prepared using oak sawdust, peanut shell, and corn cob: C (oak sawdust), M1 (2 oak sawdust + 1 wheat bran), M2 (2 peanut shells + 1 wheat bran), M3 (1 oak sawdust + 1 peanut shell + 1 wheat bran), M4 (2 corn cobs + 1 wheat bran), M5 (1 oak sawdust + 1 corn cob + 1 wheat bran).

Leaf spot disease (Alternaria alternata) causes severe foliar damage to niger crop. The isolates of A.alternata were collected from different location and tested for their variability in term of morphological, cultural and pathological variation viz., growth rate, colony colour, aerial mycelium colour, growth pattern, sporulation, conidial size, conidial sepation. In case of growth rate Aa1 and Aa2 was observed very fast growing it cover 70- 73 mm growth within 7 days of inoculation on PDA media.

Seed germination is the most important aspect for raising the nursery for successful seedling production of Papaya. The present study was carried out to explore the effect of different growth promoter with growing media on seed germination of Papaya. (Carica papaya L.) cv. Madhubindu under net house condition. The seeds of papaya were treated with different concentrations of GA3 and cow urine and sowing in different growing Media’s viz., Coco peat, Vermicompost and Soil. Highly significant different was observed between the treatments.

Impact of fly ash (FA) on germination and initial seedling growth performance of Acacia auriculiformis was studied. Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz.) is an important tuber cultivated in India. Cassava is vegetatively propagated through stem cuttings (setts). A mature plant with two stems will give about 12 to 20 normal sized (20 cm) setts after one year. Farmers are practicing 8-10 cm long cuttings from the mature part of stem and planted in vertical position in nursery bed at closer spacing of 5 cm. Under conventional system of propagation, 1250 to 1500 stems are required for planting one hectare of area.

To identify the best source of nitrogen among organic and inorganic sources and their combinations for better growth, flowering behaviour and fruit yield of chilli cv. Bulet, an experiment was conducted in Gangetic Alluvial plain of West Bengal. Six organic manures in different combinations were applied along with Urea at three levels (25%, 50%, and 75). Result showed that plant height and number of branches per plant was found maximum with a combination of vermicompost and urea at 50%. Flowering was delayed with increase in inorganic nitrogen level (25, 50 and 75%) in the growing media.

The possible bacterial contamination of the door handles of public “service” cars working within the city of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, was investigated. Door handles from 22 cars were sampled and cultured on multiple culture media. From the 22 samples, 29 different isolates were grown and identified. Of these, 17 (58.6%) were Staphylococcus aureus, 11 (37.9%) were coagulase-negative Staphylococcus spp. and 1 (3.5%) was Klebsiella oxytoca. An efficient protocol was developed for commercial multiplication of gerbera using young capitulum as explant across different varieties of gerbera. Media for culture establishment, shoot regeneration, multiplication were standardized. Mercuric chloride treatment (0.1%) for 2 minutes was found to be the best surface sterilant for capitulum explants resulting in the minimum per cent contaminated growing cultures (17.27%).
