Hospital acquired Candida infection is a major cause of morbidity and mortality especially in critically ill and immunocompromised patients. Therefore, an accurate and early identification is necessary for the management of patients. The aim of our study was rapid identification of Candida species and their antifungal susceptibility testing (AST) by VITEK 2 system in hospital acquired fungal infections.

Blood infection due to Candida species are major cause of morbidity and mortality in hospitalised patients. The spectrum of candidemia has changed to Non albicans Candida species and also shows resistance to commonly used azoles drugs. To study prevalence of Candida species isolated from blood culture samples and to isolate and identify different Candida species with their antifungal susceptibility testing. Blood samples were collected and incubated in automated blood culture system.

Pulmonary tuberculosis is one among the most common disease in developing countries. Candida species infection has always seemed to be associated with secondary infections in Tuberculosis. Candida species have been one of the co-infection challenges facing the patients suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis. Hence this study was undertaken to find out the prevalence of Candida species in cases of pulmonary tuberculosis.

In the clinical mycology laboratory, the identification of yeast species is done by screening in specific media, such as chromogenic agar for Candida species and Niger seed agar for Cryptococcus species, both of which are of clinical interest. This study aimed to evaluate the growth and morphological characteristics of yeasts of the Candida and Cryptococcus species in different culture media.

Candidiasis is the commonest fungal disease found in humans affecting mucosa, skin, nails and internal organs. It is caused by various species of yeast like fungi belonging to genus Candida with Candida albicans as the representative species. This study was undertaken to find out the prevalence of candidiasis in immunocompromised patients in this part of the country as well as to identify the different species isolated. History was elicited from all the patients enrolled in this study after taking informed consent from the patient.

The isolates of Candida spp. and Cryptococcus neoformans were inhibited by curcumin, with different degrees of inhibition among species, with MICs ranging from 8-64 µg/mL. After exposure of the C. albicans strains to curcumin, it was observed a decrease in the number of viable cells and damage to cell membranes, the mitochondrial function of C. albicans cells appears to be affected after exposure to curcumin.

Candidiasis is one of the most predominant fungal infections that cause a major mortality of the patient. The epidemiology of candida infections have been witnessed a change round the world. We aimed to determine the distribution of candida species isolates from various clinical samples of patients in ICUs and evaluate its antifungal susceptibility to demonstrate the local resistance profile and guiding empirical treatment for clinicians. This study included 714 Candida isolates. Candida species were identified by MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry.

Rice is a major crop of Assam. Using rice as a substrate, different communities in the state produces peculiar fermented and non-fermented products like rice beer, sweets and snacks etc. Production of rice beer involves two steps; starter culture preparation and brewing. The starter culture is made of rice and herbal combinations and believed to act as inoculants for brewing. These products often contain mixed microbial population due to allowance of natural fermentation.

Candida species form part of normal flora of human beings. In the presence of predisposing factors, these can cause different infections with varied severity. Over the last few months fungal infection rates have increased and a change is seen in their epidemiology and antifungal susceptibility pattern. Hence this study was conducted to learn the distribution of Candida species in various samples and their antifungal susceptibility pattern. A total number of 60 Candida isolates were included in the study. Identification was done by colony morphology and Gram stain.
