In this paper, a thin stearic acid (SA) film was deposited onto the polyurethane (PU) coatings with different concentrations of stearic acid in the ethanol (1 wt.%, 2 wt.% and 3 wt.%) by centrifuged technique. Fourier transform infrared spectra (FTIR) and water contact angle (WCA) method were performed to characterize and evaluate the hydrophobic layer formed on the surface of the samples.

Ebook "Dyes and pigments (SpringerBriefs in Molecular science)" describe the structural differences between dyes and pigments, their mechanisms of action, properties and applications. They set the scene by explaining the reasons behind these differences and show how dyes are predominately organic compounds that dissolve or react with substrates, whereas pigments are (predominantly) finely ground inorganic substances that are insoluble and therefore have a different mode of coloring.

Ebook "Ruthenium oxidation complexes: Their uses as homogenous organic catalysts" explores ruthenium complexes, particularly those in higher oxidation states, which function as useful and selective organic oxidation catalysts. Particular emphasis is placed on those systems which are of industrial significance. The preparation, properties and applications of the ruthenium complexes are described, followed by a presentation of their oxidative properties and summary of the different mechanisms involved in the organic oxidations.

The flowers of Hylocereus undatus (Haw.) Britton & Rose have been reported in vitro antioxidant and tyrosinase inhibitory activities. This study screened preliminarily the triterpenoid constituents and evaluated in vitro tyrosinase inhibitory activity of H. undatus flowers. H. undatus flowers were harvested from Binh Thuan Province, Vietnam at four different flowering stages, and their five separated parts (stamen, pistil, petals, ovary, and sepals) were extracted with ethanol.

Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis L.) is a herb species with many benefits for health. Lemon balm is effective in reducing anxiety, stress, improving insomnia, treating viruses and some digestive diseases,... This species can be propagated by sowing seeds or cuttings or dividing branches from the root. In this study, the propagation experiments using seeds and cuttings were conducted to find a suitable propagation method for lemon balm in Vietnam.

Silver based flexible printed electronics offer the possibility to design low-cost environmentally friendly products through versatile manufacturing procedures. In this regard, conductive silver inks are commonly printed on flexible substrates because in contrast to their macroscale analogues, the silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) present different salient physical and chemical properties.

In the present investigation, GNS have been prepared by an aqueous anodic exfoliation of pencil graphite in an acidic medium at different dc voltages (5 Ve12 V). The GNS prepared at optimum voltage were mixed with polyaniline (PANI) polymer and drop casted on an indium tin oxide (ITO)/Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrate to study the I-V characteristics and to measure the band gap of composites.

A new nanocomposite superhydrophobic of the RTV (room temperature vulcanized) silicon rubber reinforced with a different percentage of nanosilica was prepared by a two-stage sol-gel route to obtain a superhydrophobic surface coating on high voltage glass insulator, preventing the dust-water droplet from adhering to its surface. The cold spraying technique was utilized to build up a thin nanocomposite superhydrophobic layer on the glass insulator containing different percentages of the nanosilica particles, such as 23 wt %, 33 wt %, and 44 wt % with RTV silicon substrate.

Chlamydia-like organisms (CLO) have been found to be present in many environmental niches, including human sewage and agricultural run-of, as well as in a number of aquatic species worldwide. Therefore, monitoring their presence in sentinel wildlife species may be useful in assessing the wider health of marine food webs in response to habitat loss, pollution and disease.

The crude enzyme extract of the strain was also characterized the activity with respect to temperature, pH, incubation period and two different enzyme substrates. High protease activity produced by Bacillus sp. B9 was observed at 36h of incubation at 45 oC with the initial pH of 9.0 by using gelatin as its substrate. Additionally, when using gelatin substrate, the protease activity was much higher than in the case of casein.

preading area through a 1.3 cm deep matrix was reduced with increased moisture content, densely packed matrixes, and higher viscosity oils. Initial contact angle (CA) measurements for all oils was typically lower on clay matrixes due to its sheet-like structure and high absorption capabilities. Individual droplet penetration took longer at lower MC in direct contradiction to bulk kinetics studies, suggesting different spreading behavior across the surface border.

Presence of 10% (v/v) acetonitrile in the reaction medium indicated that purified enzyme was strongly inhibited. It was also detected that some metal ions affected enzyme activity at different rates. As a result, it was observed that esterase from Geobacillus sp. DF20 has extreme temperature and pH stabilities. Therefore, the stability and Km value of the enzyme make this study interesting when compared with the literature.
