Diffuse gastric cancer

The main reason for treatment failure after curative surgical resection of gastric cancer is intraabdominal spread, with 40–50% peritoneal seeding as primary localization of recurrence. Peritoneal relapse is seen in 60–70% of tumors of diffuse type, compared to only 20–30% of intestinal type.

There have been sporadic reports about synchronous as well as metachronous gastric adenocarcinoma and primary gastric lymphoma. Many reports have dealt with metachronous gastric adenocarcinoma in mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma of stomach.

To evaluate whether apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) value of gastric cancer obtained from diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) correlates with the HER2 status. In this pilot study, we have demonstrated that the ADC values of gastric cancer correlate with the HER2 status. Future research is warranted to see if DWI can predict HER2 status and help in tailoring therapy for gastric cancer.

Most cases of disseminated carcinomatosis of the bone marrow (DCBM) arise from gastric cancer. DCBM from pancreatic cancer is very rare. We herein present a case of DCBM from pancreatic cancer.

Whole-lesion apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) histogram analysis has been introduced and proved effective in assessment of multiple tumors. However, the application of whole-volume ADC histogram analysis in gastrointestinal tumors has just started and never been reported in T and N staging of gastric cancers.

Hereditary diffuse gastric carcinoma (HDGC) accounts for 1–3% of all gastric carcinomas. Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are the most common mesenchymal tumors in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract but they comprise fewer than 1% of all GI malignancies.

Several genetic and epigenetic alterations are related to the development and progression of Gastric Cancer (GC), one of those being the deregulated microRNA (miRNA) expression profile. miRNAs are small noncoding RNAs that negatively regulate the expression of thousands of genes, including oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes.

Diffuse gastric cancer (DGC) is associated with the reduction or absence of the expression of the cell adhesion protein E-cadherin (encoded by the CDH1 gene). Molecular characteristics are less well described for mixed gastric cancer (MGC).

Geospatial technology has facilitated the discovery of disease distributions and etiology and helped target prevention programs. Globally, gastric cancer is the leading infection-associated cancer, and third leading cause of cancer mortality worldwide, with marked geographic variation.

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is thought to have an oncogenic effect on the development of gastric malignancies. However, the effect of H. pylori status on the prognosis of gastric diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) remains unconfirmed.

In this article, we aimed to characterize the diffuse gastric cancer cells with MRI and transcriptomic data. We hypothesized that gene expression pattern is associated with the phenotype of the cells and that the heterogeneous enhancement pattern and the high tumorigenicity of SNU484 can be modulated by the perturbation of the highly expressed gene.

Helicobacter pylori is one of the most common infectious bacteria in the world that causes gastric diseases leading to cancer. The increase of multiple antibiotic resistance rates of H. pylori have been reported worldwide. Thus, development of novel drugs is urgently required. Piper betle has many therapeutic values in traditional medicine. In this study, therefore, we investigated antibacterial activity of P. betle extracts and their fractions against a H. pylori strain isolated in Vietnam.

The stomach contents contain of both acid and proteolytic enzymes. How the stomach digests food without damaging itself remained a topic of investigation for decades. One candidate was gastric urease, which neutralized acid by producing ammonia from urea diffusing from the blood and potentially could protect the stomach. Discovery that gastric urease was not mammalian resulted in a research hiatus until discovery that gastric urease was produce by Helicobacter pylori which caused gastritis, peptic ulcer and gastric cancer.

OprM, the outer membrane component of the MexAB-OprM multidrug efflux pump ofPseudomonas aeruginosa, hasbeenassumed to facilitate the export of antibiotics across the outer membrane of this organism. Here we purified to homogeneity the OprM protein, reconstituted it into lipo-somemembranes, and tested its channel activitybyusing the liposome swellingassay. Itwas demonstrated thatOprMis a channel-forming protein and exhibits the channel property that amino acids diffuse more efficiently than saccharides....

Protein aggregation is central to most neurodegenerative diseases, as shown by familial case studies and by animal models. A modified ‘amyloid cas-cade’ hypothesis for Alzheimer’s disease states that prefibrillar oligomers, also called amyloid-b-derived diffusible ligands or globular oligomers, are the responsible toxic agent. It has been proposed that these oligomeric spe-cies, as shown for amyloid-b, b2 -microglobulin or prion fragments, exert toxicity by forming pores in membranes, initiating a cascade of detrimental events for the cell. ...
