Dipterocarpus species

Dipterocarpus retusus Blume growing in Northern Viet Nam is a member of the plants family Dipterocarpaceae. Previous studies indicated that various Dipterocarpus species contain oleoresin, triterpenes, phenolics, stilbenoids, and coumarins with interesting biological activities.

The relentlessly increase of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration due to release from different sources leads to global warming and climate change which are a cause for great concern demanding in-depth research on CO2 emission from soil under different forest cover. Forest cover can reverse the increasing CO2 in the atmosphere, thus, contributes to mitigate climate change. Forest stored about half of the organic carbon (C) contained in terrestrial ecosystems. The role of forests has a great impact on the global biogeochemical cycles and in particular, the carbon cycle.

Dipterocarpus dyeri (Dipterocarpaceae) is widely distributed in lowland rainforests in southeastern Vietnam. Due to over-exploitation and habitat destruction in the 1980s and 1990s, this species is listed as threatened. Understanding the genetic variation and mating rate among D. dyeri population that occurs in forest patches is necessary to establish effectively conservation strategies for this species. To conserve the species in tropical forests, genetic diversity and mating rate were investigated using eight microsatellites (single sequence repeat, SSR) as markers.

Dầu Song nàng (Dipterocarpus dyeri) là loài phân bố rộng ở rừng nhiệt đới Đông Nam Bộ và Tây Nguyên và đang bị đe dọa ở cả 2 mức độ quốc gia và quốc tế liên quan đến nơi sống bị suy giảm và thu hẹp. Để bảo tồn D. dyeri, đánh giá đa dạng di truyền và mức độ thụ phấn chéo ở rừng nhiệt đới Tân Phú trên cơ sở phân tích 8 cặp mồi microsatellite từ cây trội và cây con của chúng có ý nghĩa quan trọng và cần thiết.
