Disease intensity

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is an important cereal crop and prone to many diseases out ofwhich, rice blast caused by Pyricularia grisea is of significant economic importance due to its destructive nature leading to serious yield loss. Blast infected leaves of rice, Panicum grass and finger millet were collected from different fields of OUAT farm, Bhubaneswar.

The efficacy of some fungicides like carbendazim 12 % + mancozeb 63 % WP, difenoconazole 25 EC, propiconazole 25 EC along with commonly used fungicides viz., mancozeb 75 WP, propineb 70 WP, copper-oxy-chloride 50 % WP and one botanical Azadirachta indica (neem) leaf extract (20%) were tested against early blight of tomato cv. Abhinav at Agricultural Research Station, Ladol, Gujarat. A variant with no application of fungicide was used as a control. All fungicide treatments reduce the disease intensity as compared to untreated check.

Bacillary necrosis occurs very often in intensive farming of Tra catfish (Pangasius hypophthalmus) in the Mekong delta. Causative bacterium was identified as Edwardsiella ictaluri. Diseased fish with typical focal necrosis in the liver, kidney and spleen were sampled from 17 fish farms in Can Tho, Dong Thap, Vinh Long, An Giang and Ben Tre Province for bacterial isolation and identification. Among 97 isolates, 47 (48 %) were identified as E. ictaluri.
