In this work, we proposed a simple model for control of subluminal and superluminal light propagation via an external magnetic field in a lambda configuration degenerate two-level atomic medium. We show that the absorption-dispersion properties and group index under the influence of the strength of coupling laser and external magnetic fields are controlled.

This work aims to study the vibration characteristics of the rotating functionally graded porous beam reinforced by graphene platelets. The beam is mounted and rotated around a hub with a constant velocity. The material properties vary along the thickness direction with two types of porosity distributions and two dispersion patterns of graphene platelet.

The possible presence of a companion galaxy suggested by some previous authors is not confirmed. Detailed comparison between model and observations gives evidence for a more complex dynamics than implied by the model. Doppler velocity dispersion within the beam size in the image plane is found to account for the observed line width.

Dispersal of glioblastoma (GBM) cells leads to recurrence and poor prognosis. Accordingly, molecular pathways involved in dispersal are potential therapeutic targets. The mitogen activated protein kinase/extracellular signal regulated kinase (MAPK/ERK) pathway is commonly dysregulated in GBM, and targeting this pathway with MEK inhibitors has proven effective in controlling tumor growth.

In nonlinear optics, the soliton transmission in different forms can be described with the use of nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equations. Here, the soliton transmission is investigated by solving the NLS equation with the reciprocal of the group velocity b1ðzÞ, the group velocity dispersion coefficient b2ðzÞ and nonlinear coefficient cðzÞ. Two-soliton solutions for the NLS equation are obtained through the Hirota method. According to the solutions obtained, b1ðzÞ and cðzÞ with different function forms are taken to study the characteristics of solitons.

In this study, the generalized nonlinear Schrödinger equation describing nonlinear wave propagation in optical fiber with all higher order effects such as higher order dispersion, self-phase modulation and Raman scattering is considered. Using the numerical method, the effects of the terms third order dispersion, Raman scattering on evolution of ultrashort pulses are investigated in detail.

n this work, we review recent research works concerning multiple EIT and some related applications such as controlling group velocity of light, giant Kerr nonlinearity, optical bistability. The special attention of the review is also on analytical interpretations of the results to give physics insight and suitable applications. From an experimental point of view, the latest development for measuring multiple EIT spectrum and its dispersion in hot medium is presented and compared to the theoretical analytical representations.

Advection is the transport of dissolved solute mass present in groundwater due to the bulk flow (movement) of that groundwater. Advection alone (with no dispersion or reactive processes occurring) would cause a non-reactive solute to advect (move) at the mean groundwater pore velocity. All solutes undergo advection, however, reactive solutes are subject to influences by other processes detailed below. Molecular diffusion is the movement of solute ions in the direction of the con- centration gradient from high towards low concentrations. It effects all solutes.

The microstrip ring resonator was first proposed by P. Troughton in 1969 for the measurements of the phase velocity and dispersive characteristics of a microstrip line. In the first 10 years most applications were concentrated on the measurements of characteristics of discontinuities of microstrip lines. Sophisticated field analyses were developed to give accurate modeling and prediction of a ring resonator. In the 1980s, applications using ring circuits as antennas, and frequency-selective surfaces emerged...

Lightwave Systems The preceding three chapters focused on the three main components of a fiber-optic communication system—optical fibers, optical transmitters, and optical receivers. In this chapter we consider the issues related to system design and performance when the three components are put together to form a practical lightwave system. Section 5.1 provides an overview of various system architectures. The design guidelines for fiberoptic communication systems are discussed in Section 5.2 by considering the effects of fiber losses and group-velocity dispersion.
