The geometric structure, stability, dissociation channel and magnetism of AgnCo clusters (n = 1–12) have been studied using density functional theory. The results show that the Co atom tends to choose the highest coordination position.

The fluence-dependent photodissociation experiments show that the V19+ clusters prefer the evaporation of vanadium dimers rather than monomers. This finding is in line with dissociation energies extracted from early collision-induced dissociation data.

Mass spectrometric studies on the N-linked glycans of aminopeptidase 1 from Manduca sextahave revealed unusual structures not previously observed on any insect glycoprotein. Structure elucidation of these oligosaccha-rides was carried out by high-energy collision-induced dissociation (CID) using a matrix-assisted laser desorp-tion/ionization time-of-flight/time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF/ TOF) tandem mass spectrometer.

A solution is a homogeneous mixture of solute (present in smallest amount) and solvent (present in largest amount). • Solutes and solvent are components of the solution. • In the process of making solutions with condensed phases, intermolecular forces become rearranged. • Consider NaCl (solute) dissolving in water (solvent): – the water H-bonds have to be interrupted, – NaCl dissociates into Na+ and Cl-, – ion-dipole forces form: Na+ … d-OH2 and Cl- … d+H2O. – We say the ions are solvated by water. – If water is the solvent, we say the ions are hydrated....
