Open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) is the gold standard management of fractures of the distal humerus. Stable fixation to allow early mobilization is not always possible in cases with comminuted fracture patterns and bone loss, with a high failure rate. We propose augmentation of internal fixation in these unstable situations with a spanning plate across the elbow to protect the fixation construct temporarily until bone union.

Understanding the profile of different upper extremity fractures, particularly those presenting as a 1st incident can inform prevention and management strategies. The purpose of this population-level study was to describe frst incident fractures of the upper extremity in terms of fracture characteristics and demographics.

“Chevron”-Olecranon osteotomies are commonly used for the approach to intraarticular distal humerus fractures but are often associated with procedure related complications. We studied the triceps reflecting approach (TRA) with preservation of the extensor apparatus as a safe alternative giving a sufficient exposure to the elbow joint and helping to achieve anatomical fracture reduction with the intact olecranon as a template.

The current research is a retrospective study that involves the description of a new trochleocapitellar index (TCI), on basis of anteroposterior (AP) radiographs of normal and fractured paediatric elbows. This index may be useful in assessing the alignment of the elbow with a supracondylar fracture.

Chronic intercondylar fractures of the distal humerus with massive bone defects and severe comminution in the metaphysis are rare and complex injuries that are challenging for surgeons to treat, as reconstructing the triangular structure of the distal humerus is difficult and may have a severe impact on functional outcomes, especially in young patients, for whom total elbow arthroplasty is usually not a suitable option due to significant impairment in upper limb strength.

Lateral condylar humerus fractures (LCHFs) are the second most common pediatric distal humerus fractures. Open reduction and internal fixation is recommended for fractures displaced by more than 2 mm.

Present study was conducted on the humerus bones of five adult Indian tigers. The shaft was a four sided structure upto the one third of its length, after which it became three sided because of merging of the anterior surface distally. Olecranon fossa was heart shaped and had several foramina. Greatest length of humerus was (33.62 cm) approximately three times than mid-shaft diameter of the humerus (10.88 cm).

The present study was conducted on the wing bones of an adult great Indian horned owl. The humerus was the largest of the wing bones. It had a slightly twisted cylindrical shaft and two expanded extremities. The proximal extremity had a distinct elongated head, a medial tuberosity and a lateral tubercle which continued as the prominent deltoid crest caudolaterally. Distal extremity on its caudal aspect had a wide shallow olecranon fossa. Ulna was thicker and radius was slender rod like.
