  • Spatial patterns of forest trees have been long recognized as evidences of underlying biological processes within forests. We used point pattern analysis methods and process-based models to detect the demography and dynamics of trees in a primary rainforest stand. A fully mapped 1-ha plot was investigated in the tropical rain forest of Cuc Phuong National Park. Trees were stem-mapped, diameter-measured at breast height and classified into species.

  • J. excelsa M. Bieb forms about 82% of the total juniper forests in Turkey. A total of 456 plant samples belonging to 19 J. excelsa populations were collected to determine the genetic variation of J. excelsa and compare their genetic diversity among populations via simple-sequence repeat (SSR) and intron targeted amplified polymorphism (ITAP) markers. Seven SSR and 132 ITAP loci were polymorphic. The percentage of polymorphism for ITAP loci at the population level ranged from 31.34 to 55.97.

  • The structures of biological macromolecules provide a framework for studying their biological functions. Three-dimensional structures of proteins, nucleic acids, or their complexes, are difficult to visualize in detail on flat surfaces, and algorithms for their spatial superposition and comparison are computationally costly.

  • Essential Dynamics (ED) is a common application of principal component analysis (PCA) to extract biologically relevant motions from atomic trajectories of proteins. Covariance and correlation based PCA are two common approaches to determine PCA modes (eigenvectors) and their eigenvalues.

  • Many organisms, in particular bacteria, contain repetitive DNA fragments called tandem repeats. These structures are restored by DNA assemblers by mapping paired-end tags to unitigs, estimating the distance between them and filling the gap with the specified DNA motif, which could be repeated many times.

  • The knowledge-based statistical potential has been widely used in protein structure modeling and model quality assessment. They are commonly evaluated based on their abilities of native recognition as well as decoy discrimination. However, these two aspects are found to be mutually exclusive in many statistical potentials.

  • The Charged Hard Sphere (CHS) reference system is applied to study the structural analysis of liquid 3d transition metals. Here we report the structure factor S(q), pair distribution function g (r), interatomic distance r1 of nearest neighbour atoms and coordination number n1 for liquid 3d transition metals viz: Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni and Cu. To describe electron–ion interaction our own model potential is employed alongwith the local field correction due to Sarkar et al (SS). The present results of S(q) and g (r) are in good agreement with experimental findings.

  • Cardinalfishes belongs to the family, Apogonidae is cryptic in nature that often shows taxonomic ambiguity through conventional taxonomy. It is globally accepted that mitochondrial DNA marker i.e., Cytochrome C Oxidase (COI) can be used to resolve these taxonomic uncertainties. In the present study, the DNA barcode was developed using COI marker for the two species of cardinalfishes (Archamia bleekeri and Ostorhinchus fleurieu) collected from Thoothukudi coast. Results showed that the distance values between the two species are higher than that of within the species.

  • The present investigation to assess genetic diversity among 100 rice genotypes including five checks was conducted at Thyavanagi Village of Davanagere, Karnataka during Kharif 2016. Mahalanobis’ D2 statistics is used to quantify the degree of divergence. It is based on second degree statistics and pattern obtained by D2 does not change with number of characters. Mean values of 100 rice genotypes for ten characters were used to assess genetic distance between pair of genotypes. Genotypes were grouped into eleven clusters distribution patterns.

  • Genetic diversity analysis of nine varieties of wheat (Triticum aestivum) was evaluated using 14 SSR markers. A genetic relationship was studied by calculating the genetic distances using an un-weighted pair-group method with arithmetic mean (UPGMA) subprogram of NTSYS-PC software. The cluster analysis shows that the most closely related varieties were V6 (GW1255) and V9 (GW366); V4 (GW11) and V8 (GW273), V1 (GW503) and V3 (GW451) respectively. V7 (GW173) and V3 (GW451) were the most distinct varieties among all the 9 varieties analyzed in this study.

All the accessions were grouped into eight different non-overlapping clusters. Among them cluster I, having 17 accessions, emerged with highest number of entries followed by cluster V with 9 accessions, cluster III with 7 accessions, cluster IV with 6 accessions, cluster VI, VII and VIII constituted by 5 accessions each while cluster II, comprised 3 accessions, had least number of entries.

  • Based on the importance of the short range order effect of the plasmas OCP, which is expressed through the damped oscillations of the pair correlation function g(r), we carry out elaborate examinations of the location rmax as well as of the amplitude gmax of its first maximum for various values of the screening parameter and put forward for the first time the analytical formulae for these data. The linear variation of the screening potential for some interionic distance can be therefore explained thoroughly by considering the relation between this first maximum and the screening potential.
