In paper "Mixture of Erlang and exponential approximation for ultimate ruin probability", we investigate the mixture of Erlang and exponential approximation based on the first three moments and the matrix-exponential representation of mixed Erlang and exponential functions. Besides, a number of numerical examples are given to illustrate the quick convergence of the method in the cases of the first three moments of uniform distribution on . Moreover to illustrate this method, a numerical example is given with different initial reserves of insurance company.

Our understanding of the factors influencing the emergence, dissemination and global distribution of epidemic clones of bacteria is limited. ST59 is a major epidemic clone of community-associated MRSA in East Asia, responsible for extensive morbidity and mortality, but has a much lower prevalence in other parts of the world.

The majority of participants displaying incongruent decisions of achievement attribution via LS and CJ showed equivalent LS scores between effort and ability attributions. A goodness-of-fit test was conducted (on a model motivated by the beta-binomial distribution) and successfully eliminated the possibility that the tied LS scores in effort and ability attributions actually represent participants’ true psychological state.

In general, it is reviewed that there will be decrease in rainfall for SW monsoon and increase in rainfall during NE monsoon for peninsular region during El Niño years and vice versa for La Niña years. Markov chain tool is implicated here to find out the distribution of wet spells during El Niño and La Niña years compared with neutral years so as to find the maximum possible wet period which helps in identifying maximum cropping duration for respective periods.

The data are derived from daily maximum temperatures recorded at AEC&RI, Kumulur Meterological Observatory. Extreme maximum temperature using 25 years of data is studied. The maximum temperatures are modelled using the generalized extreme value distribution. The results showed that twenty five year maximums are significant to be fitted to the GEV model and thus are used as our selection periods. The Mann-Kendall test detects no monotonic trends for the maximum temperatures.

Technical noise can compromise the precision and accuracy of the reaction times collected in psychological experiments, especially in the case of Internet-based studies. Although this noise seems to have only a small impact on traditional statistical analyses, its effects on model fit to reaction-time distributions remains unexplored.

This paper presents the results of the flood frequency analysis of Meenachil river basin in Kerala using Gumbels extreme value distribution. The analysis used 34 years of data (1985-2018) to model the annual maximum discharge. The flood peak values of return period 2, 10, 50 and 100 year were computed and further extrapolation could be done to find out the flood discharge of any return period.

The historical rainfall data for the period of 37 years (1981-2017) of Junagadh district in Gujarat were analyzed for selection of most appropriate probability distribution of rainfall. From the analysis, it was found that one single probability distribution has not been found appropriate to represent all the data sets though Gamma distributions, Gumbel max.distribution and generalized extreme value distribution were found promising for most of the data sets.

The inheritance pattern of flower colour in underutilized tuberous legume crop yam bean was studies by utilizing a white flower colour line (YBWF1) and two purple flower colour lines (RM-1 and L No-3). The F1 and F2 population along with parental lines were evaluated to study the inheritance pattern of the flower colour. All the F1 hybrids showed purple colour in both the crosses and in the F2 segregation generation, the observed distribution of the flower colour fitted the expected Mendalian ratio of 3 (Purple flower colour):1 (white flower colour).

Traditional econometric modelling typically follows the idea that market returns follow a normal distribution. However, the concept of tail risk indicates that the distribution of returns is not normal, but skewed and has heavy tails. Thus, a heavy-tailed distribution, which accurately estimates the tail risk, would significantly improve quantitative risk management practice. In this paper, we compare four widely used heavy-tailed distributions using the S&P 500 daily returns.

The Chinese stock market is unique in which it is moved more by individual retail investors than institutional investors. Therefore, for economic and political stability it is more important to efficiently manage the risk of the Chinese stock market. We investigate its volatility dynamics through the GARCH model with three types of heavy-tailed distributions, the Student’s t, the NIG and the NRIG distributions.

Questionnaires using Likert scale are designed on the basis of literature review and distributed to employees currently working in Viettel Group by convenience sampling. To analyze data, the software programs IBM SPSS and IBM AMOS are employed. IBM SPSS provides Reliability Analysis to test internal consistency, and Exploratory Factor Analysis to comprehend dimensions and patterns of factors. Likewise, IBM AMOS offers Confirmatory Factor Analysis to scrutinize the Goodness of Fit of the Measurement model and Structural Equation Modelling to produce regression weights.

In the present study attempts have been made to identify a most important weeks for wheat yield at district level. Weekly data of 18 meteorological weeks on (47th to 52nd weeks on first year and 1st to 12th Standard Meteorological Weeks, SMW for 2nd year) on minimum temperature over a span of 20 year (1995 to 2015) has been used along with the annual wheat production data (used as detrened yield for fitting of model) for Faizabad district of eastern U.P. Distribution of temperature has been recorded for wheat crop. Yield of wheat crop was recorded yearly for the study.

Recognising the pattern of pest infestation helps greatly to understand the changes in the population dynamics due to several biological, environmental and climatological factors. As data are count in nature, suitable choice of distribution as well as linear or non-linear growth models are obvious to capture the variability present the population. If data are not properly fitted, integrity of scientific inference will be at stake. Hence, in the present study, an attempt has been made to fit appropriate discrete distributions along with the usual linear and non-linear modular approach.
