Lagoons are valuable ecosystems providing various services, such as fishing, recreational activities, and land reclamation, as well as hosting high biodiversity. Although lagoons in Turkey cover a coastal area of more than 36,000 ha, few studies of them have been conducted. Therefore, two lagoons (Dalyan and Arapçiftliği) located on the coast of the Sea of Marmara in the Kocaçay Delta, which is under intense anthropogenic pressure, were investigated between November 2013 and March 2015 to examine the effects of environmental factors on taxonomic diversity.

Habitat conditions may shape the abundance and community structure of planktonic fauna. In this study, we investigated whether reservoirs with different locations and drainage basins also differed in the structure and abundance of zooplankton. The studies were conducted in 2010–2011 between June and October in the Vistula Lagoon and Lake Łebsko. The zooplankton was dominated mainly by small eurytopic organisms belonging to Rotifera. Plankton crustaceans showed a limited diversity of species. Copepods were predominant, while Cladocera were observed sporadically in more freshwater habitats.

The objective of this study is to provide information on the zooplankton community and physicochemical properties of Uzungöl Lagoon. Sampling studies were performed at monthly intervals for abiotic factors and community parameters between September 2015 and August 2016. The variations of zooplankton community were estimated using Shannon-Weiner diversity (H’), Pielou evenness (J), species richness (S), frequency, and dominancy indices. The relationship between environmental variables and community parameters were analyzed with Pearson’s correlation test and redundancy analysis (RDA).

Zooplankton holds a key position in the food web as it was directly related to the consumption of organic energy produced by phytoplanktonic photosynthesis and then by transforming it to the higher tropical levels of hetirotropes such as fish. Some zooplankton population disappeared at a specified period and reappeared during other period. This disappearance may be due to the fact that some species occur in spores, under favorable conditions spore germinate and appear as zooplankton.

Urban lake pollution is one of the serious issues due to suffering of waste discharged from householders. However, there is a gap of knowledge about the diversity of zooplankton species and how metals accumulate in zooplankton in urban ecosystems. We addressed this by determining the rule of blooming macro-zooplankton in the Truc Bach lake and levels of two essential metals: copper (Cu), and zinc (Zn) and of three non-essential metals: arsenic (As), and lead (Pb) in water samples were determined.

The present investigation was carried out to assess the distribution of zooplankton in seagrass ecosystem in comparison with that of the coastal waters without seagrasses in Gulf of Mannar. Based on the specimens collected in four surveys at eight sites in major rivers in Vinh Long province during 2013 through 2014, the total of eighteen species of cladoceran, belonging to 14 genera, 7 families and 2 orders, were recorded. The cladocerans fauna in Vinh Long province is moderately diverse, and almost all the species were common.
