  • Stray dog bite is one of the public health problem in the world and there is a great need of envisaging irreversible contraceptive methods in dogs. Therefore, the present study was conducted to evaluate the effects of intra epididymal zinc arginine administration in prepubertal dogs. Eighteen pre-pubertal stray community dogs weighing 6-8 kg were administered with zinc arginine solution@ 0.2 ml per each cauda epididymis percutaneously using 26 gauge, ½ inch needle.

  • Rabies is the oldest zoonotic disease known to mankind. Most of the human cases reported worldwide are due to dog bite, although few cases may be transmitted by non-bite exposures. Theoretically high-risk exposures include direct contact of broken skin or mucosa with saliva, tears, oropharyngeal secretions and CSF.   • A six year old female German shepherd crossbred dog was reported with the history of snake bite by Russell’s viper, acute onset of oozing of blood from inner side of the oral cavity, oedematous face, congested conjunctival mucus membrane, restlessness and respiratory distress and signs of disseminated intravascular coagulation. Animal was treated with Polyvalent Snake Venom followed by supportive therapy of Tetanus Toxoid, Dexamethasone, Atropine Sulphate, and antibiotic combinations like ceftriaxone and metronidazole along with liver tonic.

  • Rabies has terrified men since antiquity. Present study was carried out from randomly selected population of 120 dog- owner respondents from 3 urbancities of Gujarat state (India), viz., Ahmadabad, Anand and Vadodarato report percentage analysis of dog-owners on their knowledge level for prevention of rabies in dogs. Highest percentage (94.16%) of respondents possessed knowledge about rabies to animals can be caused by bite of rabid dog while lowest percentage of respondents (40.00%) were aware about the celebration of the world rabies day.

  • Rabies Domestic animals, primarily dogs, are the major transmitters of rabies in developing countries (Chap. 188). Several studies have shown that the risk of rabies posed by a dog bite in an endemic area translates into 1–3.6 cases per 1000 travelers per month of stay. Countries where canine rabies is highly endemic include Mexico, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, and Vietnam. The three vaccines available in the United States provide 90% protection.
