Double rice cropping

Studying the dynamics of soil organic carbon (SOC) is important for understanding the carbon stabilization into different pools. Thus, a 25-year old experiment was used to assess the impact of double rice cropping system with addition of organics and grades of fertilization on labile carbon pools and crop yield sustainability in an Inceptisol in southern India. The total water stable aggregates (WSA) in the experimental soils ranged from 70.4 to 94.9% under different treatments.

A field experiment was conducted at main research farm of OUAT, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The experiment was laid out in double split design with 27 treatment combinations and three replications. In main plot sunflower residue was removed in one plot, incorporated in another plot and in third plot no sunflower was grown. In subplot three methods of establishment of rice was taken namely dry direct seeded, wet direct seeded and transplanting method of rice establishment.

A field experiment was conducted during rabi season of 2017-18 at Instructional cum Research Farm, Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishvavidhyalaya, Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Utera or paira cropping (relay cropping) is age old double cropping system under the rainfed conditions in which succeeding utera crop is directly broadcasted in the standing rice crop after the flowering stage (Sharma et al., 2004). Tungabhadra project (TBP) irrigates almost 5.20 lakh ha area, out of which 3.50 lakh ha area of three districts of Karnataka and 2 lakh ha area of Andra Pradesh. In Karnataka it covers part of Koppal district mainly Gangavathi and Koppal talukas, where in Rice is the predominant sole double crop and hence rightly called as ―Rice Bowl of Karnataka‖. Ever since the rice cultivation has begun, BPT-5204 is the predominant Kharif variety covering almost 90-95 per cent of rice growing area and of recent became prone to multiple pest and disease resulting in increased cost of cultivation.

An one ha model of integrated farming system initiated during 2015 at Agricultural Research Institute, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad, Telangana. One hectare area divided into 5 blocks viz. involving rice-sweet corn- dhaincha on 0.24 ha, banana plantation with on 0.15 ha, brinjal-tomato in 0.2 ha for vegetable production, Green fodder crops were raised on 0.35 ha. 50 saplings of coconut were planted all around the bunds. Field beans are also grown on the bunds between the trees of coconut. Vines of bitter gourd, bottle gourd and cucumber were trained on a pandal of 0.04ha.

Soil loss was estimated from agricultural lands of South Andaman district in tropical Bay Islands applying Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE). Mean annual rate of soil loss to the tune of 184.1 X 103 tons was estimated from the crop fields of the district covering 1747.0 ha area at the rate of 105.38 t ha-1 yr-1 . In South Andaman district, kharif crops (rice, maize, arhar, ground nut, ginger, sweet potato, tapioca and turmeric) are grown in medium to low lands whereas rabi crops (pulses and vegetables) are grown in uplands. In this article, the authors present a new approach to the classification of land cover by using multi-temporal Sentinel-1A data. The experience data are single-pole (VV) in Interferometric Wide Swath mode (IW) collected from December 2014 to October 2015 along descending orbit over Hanoi, Vietnam. Decision tree method is applied base on analyzing threshold of standard deviation, mean backscatter value of land cover patterns, and combining double-crop rice classification image.
