Benzodithiophenes are heterocyclic compounds that have various medicinal and industrial applications. In the present study, halobenzodithiophene, the simplest benzofused thiophene, and its derivatives were synthesized and evaluated against alpha-glucosidase, urease, and free radical production. In the alpha-glucosidase inhibition assay, compound 2,2-bisbenzothiophne (1) exhibited potent activity with IC50 = 135 ± 0.51 µM, while its derivative 2,7-bis(butoxycarbonyl)-3,6-dichlorobenzo[1,2- b ;6,5- b ’]dithiophene (2) exhibited promising inhibition with IC50 = 263 ± 0.32 µM.

In the present study, the antioxidant properties of peripherally and nonperipherally water-soluble tetra (quinoline 5-sulfonic acid) substituted metal-free (1, 2), Zn(II) (3, 4), Co(II) (5, 6), and Mn(III)Cl (7, 8) phthalocyanine (Pc) derivatives were reported. In order to determine the antioxidant properties of the Pc compounds, three different commonly known antioxidant methods were used: DPPH (α,α-diphenyl-β-picrylhydrazyl) radical scavenging, ferrous ion chelating, and reducing power assays.

Calendula officinalis L. is a commercially important plant that finds application in the treatment of various diseases in traditional medicine. The total antioxidant capacity, radical scavenging activity, and total phenolic content of marigold extracts were investigated by Folin, CUPRAC, and DPPH assays, respectively. The optimum operating conditions of microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) including temperature, extraction time, solvent-to-solid ratio, and solvent concentration were ascertained by employing response surface methodology (RSM).

Schiff base derivatives with anthracene- and pyrene-based units, A1-A6 and P1-P6 were synthesized (89%–99% yields). Schiff base derivatives were designed to possess an heterocyclic moiety on one side to enhance the coordination ability towards metals. To investigate the biological assay of the newly synthesized compounds, their DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) radical scavenging, metal chelating, reducing power, antibacterial and DNA binding activities were tested. A6 (63.1%) showed the maximum free radical scavenging activity among all.

In this study, we collected and prepared ethanol extracts from 30 vegetable and fruit by-products. The extracts were screened on antioxidant activities using three methods including determination of total phenolic content (TPC), DPPH free radical scavenging assay (DPPH assay), and ferric reducing/antioxidant power (FRAP) assay. The extracts prepared ginger skin (TN-17) and coffee sediment (TN-16) showed strong activity.

Bitter gourd (Momordica charantia L.) has been used since long time as food and medicinal plant. This research study was performed to determine the antioxidant activity of the Bitter gourd chips by DPPH radial-scavenging activity and ABTS assay. Total phenolic content was measured by Folin-Ciocalteu reagent. The different MAP gases concentrations used for the packaging of chips were 100% N2: 0% CO2, 70% N2: 30 % CO2 and 50 % N2: 50 % CO2. The temperatures used for storage were at room temperature, 37οC and 45οC. The best result was shown by 100% N2: 0% CO2 package stored at room temperature.

Hyptis suaveolens (L) poit commonly known as Vilayati tulsi, belongs to the family Lamiaceae. Production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) causes various diseases and cellular anomalies in human beings. Antioxidants inhibit generation of reactive species, or scavenge them, or raise the levels of endogenous antioxidant defenses. In this study the antioxidant activity of various extract of Hyptis suaveolens (L) poit leaves were evaluated using Total Antioxidant Activity Method, Nitric oxide radical scavenging activity, DPPH Scavenging method, H2O2 scavenging activity, Reducing power assay.

The objective of the this study is to provide an in vitro evidence for the potential antioxidant activity of the ethanolic and aqueous extracts from fruiting bodies of Pycnoporus sanguineus (L.: Fr.) Murrill mushroom via DPPH free radical scavenging and lipid peroxidation inhibition assays. DPPH free radical and lipid peroxidation inhibitory activities of ethanolic and aqueous extracts from fruiting bodies of P. sanguineus were examined in a dose-response manner. Ascorbic acid and trolox were used as a positive control for these assays.

Plant has an innate ability to produce non-enzymatic antioxidants which have an important role in the metabolism of Reactive oxygen species (ROS). Several plants serve as the source of therapeutic agents but the properties depend on the plant nature. Thus, an evaluation of antioxidant activity is essential to determine the importance of a plant. Three plants Utleria salicifolia, Plectranthus vettiveroides and Nothapodytes nimmoniana were selected to carry out the antioxidant study.

In this study, structural features of Tricholoma matsutake polysaccharide (TMP-A) were investigated by a combination of infrared (IR) spectra, gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. The results indicated that TMP-A had a backbone of 1,4-- d-glucopyranose residue which branches at O-6 based on the experimental results. The branches were mainly composed of an (1→3)--d-galactopyranose residue, and terminated with -d-xylopyranose residue.
